This is the first year where I have actually feared flu season. My oldest dd(17) had pneumonia last winter so now she is more susceptible to respiratory illness for two years. yesterday 300 students were out with illness. I am worried because not only do we have seasonal flu to contend with, now there is swine flu. Thoughts? if your child were like mine would you have either(swine or seasonal)

I'm real sorry if this is going to be a repeat, I haven't read all replies. I can tell you in my state it's getting out of control and the governor is rethinking the decision of the school closures. Any signs of sniffles, sneezes, fatigue are being asked to stay home (including working adults... just in case). Because this was considered a new strain (and a vacc was in the works - enter center stage

We have made the decision to skip the seasonal flu vaccine and we won't even consider the h1n1 vaccine at this point. Our plan is to be extra careful with regard to nutrition, rest, and hygiene. I am also giving the kids supplements of vitamins D,C, etc. I am also going to pick up some acidophilus. My 14 yo dd said her teacher put all the sick kids on one side of the classroom yesterday which she thought was kind of silly because several of the sick kids were coughing into the air...ugh! These kids are old enough to know how to be courteous....time will tell.

No I would not vaccinate because of my fear of the unknown. I would, however, increase supplements and probiotics, encourage healthy eating, and ensure proper hand washing, etc.
