Swine Flu Party?
101
Mon, 10-19-2009 - 12:01pm

I was reading this blog and wondered about it. This H1N1 flu worries me - mostly because they're pushing the vax for it through so quickly. I keep wondering why they're doing that.

But, would you have a Swine Flu Party?

Do you think this can happen through natural exposure? Say someone with swine flu sneezes in someone's face.

LOL, I was wondering the same thing since my baby sneezes in my face ALL THE TIME.

Yes, this is the nature of communicable disease. My point was specifically related to flumist, though. Taking this vaccine is a voluntary action.

**edited to ask: are you suggesting that getting sneezed on is the same as inserting a device in your nose and sending it up there forcefully? If I want to use Afrin to clear my nasal passages something tells me I'd need to insert the aspirator and send the medicine into my nose. If I shoot it into the air it doesn't work.

I don't think we can compare sending something forcefully up the nose and being in the line of fire when someone sneezes. That's JMO, though.

What is the difference in immune response between a person getting a live virus sneezed directly into their face/mouth/nose and a person getting the live attenuated virus sprayed into their nose? (Genuinely asking, not debating)

I had a really good post and lost it. DANG IT!

But here are some pieces you may enjoy reading:

This one describes elderly patients and their weakened immune systems, I can't help but wonder how young children who were given 38 vaccines before the age of 2 will be any different from the elderly with "aging" immune systems...

http://jvi.asm.org/cgi/content/abstract/75/24/12182

You should note that one type of vaccine is not recommended for very young children because it doesn't work at all among that age group. Why is that?

Thank you for the links! And if you find the other post, please let me know!

I thought it was because their immune systems weren't fully developed yet?

You are welcome. It's not a matter of finding it, lol. It was one of those that I actually took the time to carefully type so it would make sense, and then I lost it.

Just know, if you ever leave the page while in the middle of replying - you loose your post entirely. That is what I did. :(

Oh yeah, I hate that. Now I try to remember to highlight and copy what I've written before leaving the page if I need to. But sometimes I forget and the whole darn thing is gone forever. So annoying.

Using Afrin is a bit different than catching a communicable disease though. If someone sneezes directly in someone's face the virus can enter through other avenues than just nasal passage...eyes or mouth as well as nose. Maybe they shouldn't shoot the vaccine into the nasal passage??? I have never had a nasal vaccine.
