Totally agree with this writer in that we should push to uphold the vaccination laws in public schools. As more exemptions are allowed and kids let in without vaccinations, the more we will see outbreaks of returning diseases like chickenpox and measles.

"In addition, measles susceptibility of infants younger than 1 year of age may have increased. During the 1989–1991 measles resurgence, incidence rates for infants were more than twice as high as those in any other age group. The mothers of many infants who developed measles were young, and their measles immunity was most often due to vaccination rather than infection with wild virus. As a result, a smaller amount of antibody was transferred across the placenta to the fetus, compared with antibody transfer from mothers who had higher antibody titers resulting from wild-virus infection. The lower quantity of antibody resulted in immunity that waned more rapidly, making infants susceptible at a younger age than in the past."

Quoted from a previous version of the Pink Book on insidevaccines http://insidevaccines.com/wordpress/2008/02/02/measles-the-grim-reality/

The CDC updates the Pink Book every year or two and I don't think insidevaccines has updated all of their CDC links yet.

But here is a CDC link for anyone who wants to read the measles chapter: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/pink-chapters.htm just go down the list to measles and there it is!

Hope this is authoritative enough...

{{{DO you even educate yourself at all on the dangers of these so called mild diseases? It is fine if you want to forgo vaccinations because you think they are too risky but please do not spread lies here that they are not dangerous. The side effects can include brain virus'es. strokes and even death and you are in denial that this cannot happen.}}}

Yes, and I have had measles and chickenpox.

I know there are RARE complications to the above, never denied it but these infections are benign in MOST.

From my earlier post: Not vaccinating has enabled my child to live a HEALTHIER life.

You responded: Yeah, lets just hope your child does not ever get a disease that could have been prevented by a vaccine. I see it DAILY in the healthcare setting where this has happened.

And I could say the same to you, let's just hope your child does not ever suffer an adverse vaccine event that could have been prevented by not giving the vaccine in the first place and end up in a wheelchair for life, or worse, suffer a horrifying long drawn out death as you stand by helplessly watching your child deteriorate before your eyes. I hear about it daily where this has happened, or heaven forbid you hold your screaming newborn from the time they get a shot to the time they go limp and lifeless in your arms as they pass.

If you're questioning vaccines or not vaccinating at all, stop by the Non-Vaccine Support Board that I proudly host: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-ppnonvaccine

But never assume that the greedy and incompetent,

are not unknowingly part of a deeper conspiracy.

To have it mandatory to vaccinate means that the pharm company that makes the shot, the dr who administers the shot, the govt that backs the school, and the school that the child attends would all have to declare that the shot is completely safe and effective and would all be held liable for any side effects or ineffectiveness of said shot.
Impossible for them to do.
Hence, laws requiring vaccination = mass law suits against them.
