Vitamin K Injection?

Please help by sharing with me your knowledge, experience, & opinions. My baby is due in 3 weeks. I'm 42. I've decided, with no doubts, against the Hep B shot. However my Midwife & doula have told me to accept the Vitamin K shot because it's not worth the fight. I'm currently working on my Birth Plan & Vaccine Exemption Statement which needs to be notarized & submitted. I'm feeling overwhelmed by everything at this point. What should I do?

Thank you

Thanks! I will definitely check this out. Oral VK would be great.

I have yet to hear of a "risk" other than preventable ones. I understand phimosis is considered a risk, but circumcision is not the only treatment.

Docs promote circs the same way they promote vaccines. Through scare tactics.

>>I hardly think the OP was looking for petty arguments over sources of information or personal conflict<<

No she asked for someone to tell her what to do. To me, that isn't asking for information. It's asking for someone else to make the decision for her.

All of those mythical "risks" have been proven to be preventable or avoidable altogether. And the study was full of holes. You're the first person I've seen to take it seriously.

You're a nurse?

I don't know if the OP's hospital is like mine was but there was no "no" option for the vitamin K shot for us.

Np. My daughter claimed my left arm so I tend to shorten things and am really proud of myself if I manage to use caps since I'm doing it one-handed usually.

1) Ok.

2) My problem with your post was you asking someone to tell you what you should do. That's your decision and I am a bit raw from a different forum where the question is asked "tell me what to do" all the time and when things go wrong, they place blame elsewhere.

3) Obviously. Thus the reason you're going with a doula and a midwife. I went the conformist way in a hospital just in case and I'm glad I did. We ended up needing the medical intervention.

4) I think blindly asking a group of women on a message board what you should do is just as bad as blindly trusting the pharma companies. I didn't realize the government was handling vitamin k shots for babies either.

I think you should have a general idea of which direction you're leaning when you go into it because if you wait until you're pushing and the baby arrives, they might not ask and you might be too tired or overwhelmed to be able to think through the decision. That way if all else fails, go back to what you and your hubby decide.

Thank you! :)

I'm afraid my response to her this AM was not thoughtful and intelligent .. but some people just don't get it.. so then I'm forced stoop lower than my usual standard. :)
