with measles?! I mean with your own eyes (not someone's cousin who knew of someone, who heard of a family of 8, etc). Someone on a German vaccination debate board claims that his friend in the US *sees* measles cases "all the time" (and that friend is not a doctor). With 37 or so cases reported for the last year for the entire US, I find that hard to believe...

I cannot remember anyone with measles since my brother had them about 20 years ago.

And wouldn't any school send a child home/report a case of rashy illness?!

I cannot imagine that so many cases go unreported, unless you have the homeschooled child, whose parents visit a naturopaths, but even those children would need to catch measles first.

I was just interested to get feedback from many areas of the US. Hamburg, with 1.7 million inhabitants gets about 1 measles case per month, so I assume that I could live under the impression for many years that measles were eradicated in Germany. Coburg, on the other hand, has less than 100'000 inhabitants and had over 1'300 measles cases last year, so I doubt there are many people there who are under the impression that measles no longer exist .

I've never seen a person with measles. I've heard it referenced to in '60's and '70's tv shows. I've heard family members ages 40-60+ tell me about having had measles or having friends who did (my mom's then-fiance went sterile from having had measles), but never have I seen an actual person with them. I had chicken pox at 17 (1989) and so did my sister and cousins and a ton of us- it was very catchy. That's my only first-hand experience with a now-VPD.
