Well done, anti-vaccinators, hopefully, no small siblings at home!

Not that the news sites give us much better or different info all the time but I found this article from a local paper: http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/282419

"Cases of pertussis have been increasing recently in Virginia and nationally. The number of cases in the state confirmed by lab tests jumped 72 percent from 2009 to 2010, O'Dell said."

That seems like quite an increase!!

This is very close to my sister's home, less than 20 miles down the road in an area where you have to drive that far to get a loaf of bread.

See, Gina, that is what irks me. These non vaccinating parents also make decisions for people who are unprotected because they are too young, too old, immunocompromised. If diseases were not contagious from one person to another, I wouldn't care who vaccinated and who didn't.

This is your (and Science Mom's) provaccine blog and is an op-ed piece with a clear provax stance.

Parapertussis is very rare and the vaccine does not increase the incidence of it nor really does it impede clearance of the organism. A persons own immune response to pertussis causes the problem. So, immunity to pertussis whether naturally derived or from vaccine creates an antigen that actually helps parapertussis evade the immune system.
