WHY Won't They Do The Research?

http://autisminnb.blogspot.com/2009/02/vaccine-autism-war-why-wont-they-do.html

Apart from the many thousands of allegedly hysterical, delusional parents and allegedly fraudulent, huckster professionals who have raised safety concerns, particularly autism concerns, about vaccines two high ranking members of the American public health system have stated a need for more research of possible vaccine-autism connections.

Dr. Julie Gerberding, former head of the CDC and Dr. Bernadine Healy, former head of the NIH and the American Red Cross have BOTH indicated that more research of vaccine-autism issues COULD and SHOULD be done.

So WHY are public health authorities like the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee REFUSING to authorize funding to research possible vaccine-autism connections?

I wish I knew the answer to your question, but I don't. My question is why isn't anyone in the private sector doing more empirical studies on it either? How come we have to rely on the public agencies to do it all?

Your question is "why won't they do the research"? My question is "why don't 'WE' do the research"? (By the way, by 'research' I mean conducting randomized, empirically-based studies, not looking up and compiling stories.)

"My question is why isn't anyone in the private sector doing more empirical studies on it either?"

You don't seem to get it (said in a very nice tone). If it doesn't have the approval of *science* then it gets no approval at all. There ARE studies, they are IGNORED. Unless they are published (and often even when they ARE published) in a medical or science journal - they are worthless to society.

If and when ANYONE from the medical science profession stands up - they are immediately blacklisted from "science". Smear campaigns are big in this industry, bigger than you can ever imagine.

"How come we have to rely on the public agencies to do it all?"

Studies cost money, why would our government fund these studies - why?

Do you understand the art of gaining political power? Do you know about lobbyists? (Look up the word "greed", that's all you need to know.)

The pharma-mafia includes your government and they are TERRIFIED of these studies! THAT, in a nutshell, is why we don't have them.

As an FYI, NVIC is trying to do something regarding a study. Go to their site, information about it is on the left side about 3/4 of the way down. www.nvic.org

Couldn't the same be said the other way around? When the government organizations conduct studies and it shows that vaccines do not cause damage, isn't it being said by anti-vaccination groups that the people doing the studies are "bought" by Big Pharma and dismissed by those groups?

You'd think we could pull together and fund a competitive research grant for a graduate student with the most scientifically sound and comprehensive study design.

Yes, it is said. That is why I believe it would be said about a study funded by the other side.

Not everyone dismisses studies based on COI alone (I don't, I read the study and try to make a determination of the strength of the conclusion based on the parameters, limitations, and bias) but it does cast a shadow (just not to the CDC).

Dang, then I should have gone into biomedical research and opened up a Paypal account, LOL.
