Most moms-to-be don't plan to have a c-section, but nearly a third of all babies born in the U.S. are delivered this way, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. "The odds of having a c-section are pretty high, but most women still don’t think it will happen to them," says Tara Poulin, founder of the childbirth education organization Birthing Gently and a doula who works only with women who have scheduled c-sections. Whether you know you'll be delivering by c-section or you want to be prepared just in case, here's what you can do ahead of time.

I wonder about the statement (repeated twice) that most women are off narcotics by the time they leave the hospital. Where do they get this? I've talked to hundreds of women who have had c-sections now, and I'd say only a few were on ibuprofen only after a few days. I wasn't taking it all the time by the time I left the hospital, maybe one every 4-6 hours. But I was taking them, absolutely. Just like most people I know did.

I LOVE PERCOCET! I've also read this "most women are off narcotics" but don't believe it. I was using it throughout the day, alternating with ibuprofen 600s every 4 or 6 hrs (memory's a lil fuzzy. Ha!) For the first 5 days I think (discharged 3rd day) then continued using ibuprofen during the day and percocet at night for another 4-5 days. I think my first percocet-free day was probably about 10 days pp and my first completely drug-free day was probably several days after that. I saved what was left of my percocet for a special occasion. ;)

I strongly agree with your statement.
