Ankels and feet swelling after delivery?

I am wondering if this is just me or if there are other mommies out there that had this. I had some very minor swelling of my feet and ankels when I was preganant. I have delivered a beautiful DD and almost immediately after delivery my feet and ankles have swollen up huge. I had a c-section. Any idea's?

Thanks for your input,

Hugs,

The swelling I had in my legs after my c/s was much worse than the swelling during the pregnancy. Between the IV and the fact that you body doesn't flush the fluids with a c/s as well, I guess it's got to go somewhere.

It was kind of uncomfortable, but it did go away on its own after a few days. My doctor said to try to stay hydrated, and to flex or circle the ankles several times a day--using the joints there helps to "pump" the fluid back where it's supposed to be.

i also had the "Flintstone Feet" as I took to calling them. Mine laster for a few daysafter I got home, but have gradually gone away. i agree with the advice to stay hydrated and to circle feet.

Hang in there.

I had the same problem after my 1st c/s--I guess 24 hrs of labor with IV's going can do that to a person ;-) Mine was so bad that 3 days after I had DD (almost a 9 lb babe) I weighed the same thing as I did 3 days before I had her :-( Plus I had horrible red streaks on my legs 'cause I was *that* swollen. My dr had to prescribe Lacex for me. Even with that it was a good wk before things went down.

Oddly, my 2nd c/s I didn't have any problems with swelling (had IV's for about 8 hrs before the c/s). In fact, the same night I was commenting to a friend how my sinuses and my ankles were both back to normal!

Hope your swelling disappears soon.

With my first child the exact same thing happened to me. After the section my feet and legs became very swollen. I had to wear my husbands sneakers home from the hospital. It just went away slowly over a week or two. My doctor and the nurses said that sometimes swelling occurs after a section.

It didn't happen with my second and he was a section. Good Luck and it does go away.

Kelly,

That happened to me. I was pretty swollen during the pg, but after the csection it got worse. My dr said it was because of blood pressure. She said my body had to get used to having less blood now. Anyway, the swelling went down in a few days. Good Luck!

I had a c/s june 3, and was very swollen, but by day 5 post, i lost 10 pounds of water weight! My ankles looked like pre-pregnancy over night! i believe it is from the IV fluid- I was on IV for 30 hours.
