C-Section Recovery with a Toddler

Hello Mommies,
I have my second c-section scheduled next Tuesday, and I have a 15 month at home. My recovery from the first one was really easy, I felt back to my old self in a week or so but I took it easy when needed. This time I am a bit more worried because I have a demanding toddler to look after as well. I have help here with me for 3 weeks, but after that the grandparents for back home, and DH goes back to work. I know I am not supposed to lift my son for 6 weeks, but that is going to be impossible. What is the likely hood that 3 weeks will be long enough? He's learned how to go up the stairs, but I still have to lift him into the high chair, car seat, and his crib. Any tips from those of you that had a c-section with a toddler at home?

Thanks

Royann

My two are 19 months apart, and by 3 weeks I was back to myself (obviously still sore) but I was picking up my son wthout a problem. I did have increased bleeding at one point and I just made a conscious effort to pick him up less freqently -- and I was fine...

If you do find yourself in a situation where you can't lift your toddler - one good suggestion is to move everything to a single room and keep him entertained in that room while you stay on the couch. I also found meal time particulary hard with my two little ones. Have you pre-frozen any meals? If not, it might be good to save up some leftovers while you have help those first few weeks so that you don't have to be up and around cooking, trying to watch a toddler and caring for baby too.

My guess is that given how quickly you recovered from your first C that you'll do great this go 'round too.

G/L! We'd love to hear your birth story if you have a chance to post after your delivery... Congrats!

I was worried about the same thing. My first son was so attached to me I didn't know how I was going to handle c-section #2. The second section was actually even easier than the first. Within a week I felt really good and by three weeks I was good to go. I would suggest only lifting when neccessary but it sounds like you will be fine, especially since the first recovery was fairly easy for you. Good luck and congratulations!

I so glad i found this.. I have a 18month old and i just had C/s #2 2 weeks ago. My Dh is in school so its just my daughter and the twins till 1:30pm She gets in her bed useing her table (cause i'm not supose to lift her) but if the DH is not home when she wakes up i have no way to get her out. so I have to lift her. this really is the only time i lift her and that has been in the last 2 days. its hard trying to figure out ways to get her places with out lifting her.
