Hi all...does your doctor perform the Group B Strep test with a planned c/s?

My doctor doesn't do it for C sections, but I know that others have different theories. I think you'd be okay to ask

I've wondered why that's necessary. Ask how group b strep is passed- all thought it was through the vagina. I have had it all 5 times with my c-sections, even as they were preparing to do the c-section and I just don't get that.

I asked my doc and she said that they do it in case my water breaks prior to the c/s. I didn't press her further about when it was actually transmitted b/c I hadn't read your post yet. She did said, however, that the reason her practice does it is because the CDC still recommends it. She said that in her own mind, she doesn't see that it's really necessary b/c I will be getting antibiotics through the IV during the c/s regardless and she's heard "buzz" that the CDC may someday change the recs based on this. I didn't put up too much of a fight, though, since it will be good for me to know if I have it. IF I go into labor prior to my c/s and things are progressing quickly, I still may attempt a VBAC.

I think it depends on the doctor. I had it done for my 1st preg. before we knew it was c/s, and the same doc did it again for the second pg. even though we knew it was going to be c/s, he did it "just to be safe".
