I am having a sceduled c-section and I really want to be sure things go better this time than they did with my last. I have chosen a new hospital and a new doctor and I have written a birth plan. My 22 week appointment is tomorrow and now I am afraid that the doctor will get the wrong idea and think I am being demanding and write me off as pushy or ridiculous. Here is my plan so far, please tell me what you think......

I, Danielle the birth mother would like all effort made to accommodate our wishes as a family for the following c-section birth plan.....

No staples please, sensitive to metal - dissolvable stitches, surgical adhesive and steri-strips prefered

The mother wants antibiotics at the time of the c-section to ward of possible infection

The mother would like to have her spouse present during the delivery

mother would prefer to begin breastfeeding the baby as soon after birth as possible.

The mother would like the baby with her in recovery to bond and breastfeed.

The mother will only breastfeed -

All this time I thaught I had written a reply ages ago but I guess I forgot to send it, oops! I wanted to say Thank you all so much for your support and info! I had originally chosen this doctor because he saved my mothers life and has delivered many friends, but I did not feel very comfortable with him and I was nervous about talking to him about my wishes. There is a female doc I have seen more than him and I like her, so my plan is at my next visit (26 months -- which is a long one)

Sounds good :)

I know they can do something other then staples, SIL had a c/s a few weeks ago and she didnt have them, they actually used that glue? and just stuck her shut. Sounds creepy, but it worked and no staples had to come out.

As for the vomiting, do they give you gravol beforehand? I know we have to take gravol, and something else to calm nerves. I was sick during my first c/s, throwing up on the way down and I demanded to be put to sleep, which they did, but they werent happy. The next one was way better, so you may be surprised. You might be totally fine that morning.

Sounds good. You'll have to talk to your dr about the staples though. I'm not sure those can be avoided. I liked having them knowing that they were holding everything in:) I had them taken out before I left the hospital. Then had the steristrips put on. The only thing I would change is "the mother" to "I". It makes you seem more approchable not so demanding:) Although you are the mom, who cares how you sound. I had a list just like that for my 2nd and 3rd c/s too. The nurses were great. Good Luck!!

Also - with my last cesarean I was very sick and vomiting throughout the surgery - is there anything I can ask my doctor to do that will help prevent that? It was awful trying to throw up while stuck on my back. Thanks!
