I have a c-section in 2 weeks if I make it that long. I had one with my first daughter. What I want to know is do I have to have the morphine? I itched and sweated terribly afterwards-was it the morphine? Also, I don't want to be queasy or get sick-will meds work? What can ask for or do to prevent this?

hi! I tackled the morphine question in my post below announcing the arrival of my son Anderson Bryce. After reading that, if you have more questions, just post and I'll check back.

Best wishes to you on your upcoming delivery. I don't think its necessary to have morphine at the time of your delivery, but it sure does help that pain. I did itch, but as it turns out, they were giving me percocet, and I am allergic to Codine, which is a component of Percocet. Once I switched to Vicodin, I was fine and the itching went away.

Also, I was told by my OB, that sometimes the itching and nausea is not really related to the drugs, but can also occur because of the hormone surge after giving birth. So, sometimes there is nothing that can be done.

The best thing to do before is to make sure that you do not eat after a certain hour before your surgery. Specifically, don't eat anything very heavy or greasy that takes a while to digest.

Best wishes to you!

I had itching after my c, but I thought it was from the epidural not morphine. Maybe I had morphine and don't remember or didn't realize. I didn't think they gave people morphine anymore, is that routine? I know they sent me home with some percacets, but maybe they gave me morphine in the hospital and that's why I itched like crazy? Do they give it in the IV or a pill?

The morphine during hte c/s was given in my IV. This time I refused the morphine and my recovery was so much better. See my birthstory below about the morphine and lack thereof for this c/s.
