Questions regarding C-Sections

To those who have experienced this first hand, I'd love to hear your feedback. I am going in for a scheduled C Section tomorrow and would like to know: what happens immediately after the surgery? (assuming everything is normal and all goes ok with the surgery). Does mom get to hold baby right away or is there some recovery first? Again, assuming everything is ok with surgery/baby, do they take the little one right into the nursery or is it standard procedure after surgery to go into the NICU? I know that these are questions that I will confirm at the hospital tomorrow but just thought I'd ask what your experiences were as well. Thanks in advance!

Well, I didn't get to hold my baby but I got to kiss her. Then the baby got wheeled off to the nursery with dad. They sewed me up and brought me to the recovery room. They told me that I could go see my daughter as soon as I could wiggle my feet. Once I could, I got to go to my room and they brought me my baby.

Ann's experience was pretty much mine for both of my sons except that with my first one, he went to the recovery room with me and I think they took care of him there until I was able to hold him. I was able to see him almost the entire time. With my second son, they did take him to the nursery for a little bit but my husband was with him the whole time.

I always joke with my husbnad that it is not fair that I carry this baby for almost 9 months and then he is the first one that gets to hold them. It is a big thrill for him and he is actually looking forward to the c-section this time since he knows what happens.

Good Luck tomorrow! I will be exactly one week behind you with my c/s if everything goes well.
