Scar pain and numbness

I had an emergency c-sec 7+ months ago (not such a great experience after a vaginal birth 2 1/2 yrs before) and I still have pain at the site off and on. Its not terrible pain, but enough to be annoying. Anyone still having this? Also, just above my scar, it's still numb. The dr said it would go away, but the feeling just doesn't seem to be there. Any help on these? I'm SO tired of all this!

Hi Toni--

the pain I'm not so sure about-- it could be adhesions pulling apart when you move in certain ways, but I'm no expert on that! My numbness honestly didn't go away for quite some time. I got pregnant 9mo after my c/s and I was still numb in spots at that point. It's been over 2 1/2 years since my c/s now (I've had a vbac in between) and my tummy still doesn't feel *quite* right. no numbness I can pinpoint exactly, but definitely not feeling like it used to as far as feeling. Actually, what the doc told me *before* the surgery was that it was possible the numbness would never entirely go away, but it would most likely get all feeling back-- that numbness possibility increases with each section though.

welcome :)

I had a c/s with my son in Nov of 97...and my scar is STILL tender in some spots..and I STILL have numbness.

I thought it was because my incision had gotten infected..and split open again 3 weeks after.

I am having another c/s June 11...and I am dreading it.

Oh Toni - I have so been there! It does take a long time for the sensation to come back.. remember they had to cut nerves too. My last c/s was almost 7 months ago, and I do on occassion have a twinge that makes me pause... especially around ovulation time and my period. As someone suggested, it could be the scar tissue.

I hope all is well and congratulations to you!

I had the numbness for quite a while after my unplanned c/s 3 years ago. I found the more stimulation the area got, the more the numbness went away. If you massage the numb spot, or do some swimming (or other activities where there's some sensation/pressure against it), it should help it recover faster.

As far as the soreness goes, I don't remember how long it took for that to completely go away. I know it was several months, though. If it seems to be linked to certain movements or activities, it could well be adhesions--and, again, massage (although uncomfy) may be the best way to deal with it.
