This has probably been asked a million and one times! So sorry in advance!I had a c-section with my first as my waters broke before labour started, i was put on pitocin for 14hours and didnt progress so i had a c-section because the risk of infection goes up after 24hours of waters breaking. So this time, after much debating, i have decided to have another c-section. I was just wondering at how many weeks did your dr. schedule your c-section? I have another appt in January but i *need* to know now :P

That's a great point, tpav!!

Some years back I think it was commonplace to schedule c-sections at 38 weeks, but now there are new studies and guidelines that most doctors won't even consider scheduling any type of delivery until the 39 week mark! Unless there is a serious medical condition that requires delivery beforehand.

With DS#3, the date they scheduled was 5 days before his due date. And then with DD, they were willing to schedule the c-section on the day I turned 39 wks, but that was a Wednesday, and I told them I preferred the Friday after since it worked better with my older kids schedules. However, I started having a slow leak and contractions every 2-3 minutes apart on that Wednesday evening, and we decided to go ahead and do the c-section on Thursday instead. So I was 39 wk 1 day when I delivered her.

I had my 1st planned section at 39 weeks 6 days and my repeat section was 39 weeks on the dot. Usually they try to do them at or after 39 weeks, unless it is otherwise medically needed to get baby out sooner. HTH

I'm sorry I'm just getting the chance to reply.

CONGRATULATIONS on your new baby, and WELCOME to the board!!

My c-section experience is a little different than most. With my 3rd pregnancy, the baby was breech and I'm pretty sure that we scheduled a c-section date at 36 weeks with the hopes that he would still turn in the meantime. And he did turn at 38 wks! So, I didn't have a c-section that time.

Last time however, I had opted for a c-section if I didn't deliver before 39 weeks on my own (mainly due to baby size and previous experiences). And we probably went ahead and scheduled the actual date around 36/37 weeks. She decided she wanted to come earlier than our planned day though. Still after my 39 wk mark, but she was born via c-section the day before my original scheduled date.

My friend who is due in January and will be having her 3rd c-section has had her date booked for at least a month already, and she still has a month to go.

I say, definitely ask at your next appt. when you can expect to start talking dates and stuff. GL!!!
