Steri strips or staples?

I am pg with #2 and going for a vbac in July. Having already had one c/s, I'm aware of the fact that I might need another c/s. In my birth plan I have included a pretty lengthy section on c/s. One question I have is what is the reasoning in using staples vs. steristrips on the outer incision? I know some ob's, mine included, use staples and others don't. I felt they were pretty uncomfortable and just wondered if they were neccessary or gave better results.

If anyone has a c/s birth plan, I'd love to see it.

Thanks

Hollie

I actually had both - about 20 staples and around 10 steri strips. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I had both too...staples for the first few days, and then when they took those out they put the steri strips on. IIRC your choices are staples or stitches, with steri strips after they come out, but I oculd be wrong. Hopefully someone will be able to help!

Hello Hollie! I don't think you have a choice in the matter, the surgeon is going to use what they are used to using. I think the staples help the incision heal quicker. I had staples with both, and really it didn't bother me one bit. Bothy time, the staples were removed the day I left the hospital and I recall some steri strips were already on, and some were added after the staples removed.

As far as a birth plan goes, check out the board website. We have a sample c-section birth plan that may help you. We pretty much cover all the decisions you will want to cover, so check it out to see if there is anything you missed. The link to the board website is at the top.

Best wishes to you!

Actually, I asked about this at my last appt. He said your choice is staples or dissolvable stiches. He will do whichever I want. He said staples are faster/easier and stitches sometimes itch when your healing. Anyone had any experience good or bad with stitches?
