Stitches or Staples?

I had asked this question in a previous thread, but mistakenly confused steristrips with stitches.

Has anyone had any good or bad experience with disolvable stitches for the skin closure in your c/s? Which would you choose, if given the option?

I had stitches and they were fine. I'm planning on requesting stitches again this time two - for two reasons. 1) You don't have to have the stitches removed, and 2) for some reason the staples make me squeamish. I can't imagine using them for anything but paper - LOL. Silly, I know, but I can't shake it.

Good Luck!

I will have stitches on May 22; after my first C/S I had staples. That was the very first time having a wound repaired (never had stitches or a broken bone as a kid) and unbeknownst to me-- I'm prone to developing keloid scars (thick scar tissue). The staples made my incision scar much worse. With my 2nd section, the doctor used the dissovable stitches and my scar was reduced by two-thirds!

As far as comfort-- I don't think there was a difference. Staples are faster.

I had dissolving stitches and they were great. I didn't have to have them taken out and they didn't itch. I think they made it take longer to finish my surgery, but my spinal was great so there was no hurry - other than I wanted to hold my baby girl!
