How do you feel about docs or parents scheduling their c-sections around the holidays?

I think if you already know that you will be having a c- section that scheduling at a time most convenient is ok as long as you are not compromising baby's health. I wouldn't want to deliver over major holidays mainly because I'd be afraid of getting the "B Team" cause the main physicians and nurses would be taking the time-off with their family.

Hi! I'm sorry I haven't been around - been super swamped! Addison hit 6 months and wow, time is flying! I had my 6 month check-up and alls well. Although I was a little disappointed my incision wasn't checked. I consider it a badge of honor and well, it's all but forgotten at this point. ;)

Still battling the pre-eclampsia (post-eclampsia? LOL). I'm guessing since I had already given birth, I'm stuck on pills for at least a while longer. It's come down a lot and is at a therapeutic level, but it's higher than it should be (and was while pregnant).

Anyway, my section was already planned (she was breech) but my doctor was going to be away during my due date week, so we scheduled it for 39 weeks. We weren't sure if I would even make that because my son was born at 37, but we did, lol. Either way, she was coming on the 17th because of the vacation. If she wasn't breech I would have been induced.

IMO, I think it's ok if you're close to your date and schedule IF it's for medical reasons (i.e., it's not an elective section). So if the baby is breech and you're due right around Christmas Day, I'd have no problem with scheduling a section for the 21st/22nd.

But then, I'm also in favor of scheduling only when there is a medical reason as well. Guessing baby size doesn't count as a medical reason if the baby is of reasonable size (since they are often wrong with sizes - a family member just had a baby and they told her the baby was too big so they scheduled a section - the baby wasn't even 7½ pounds).

I'm glad to hear from you again, Erin, but sad you are still dealing with the blood pressure stuff! That's awful. Can you believe your baby girl is 6 mos old now?!

I know! It's crazy! LOL Even though I'm slowing myself down and telling myself to enjoy it because it goes so fast I still feel like it's flying by me!

If you HAVE to have a c-section, and your choices are the day before, the day of, or the day after a holiday, I say choose the day after! You have to pick a day anyway, so might as well pick a convenient one. Unless of course that it puts you having your baby earlier than you should. I hate the idea of babies being taken earlier just for the sake of convenience.

Manda :)
