When is sex safe after emerg c-section?

Hi all! Just checking this board out and curious about the matter of sex!!! I was in labour for 24 hours and dilated to 9 cm for 4 hours before I had an emergency c-section due to a detaching placenta. My question is when is it safe to resume sex? Do I have to wait 6 weeks? Its been 3 1/2 weeks now and my bleeding has pretty much stopped, no longer wearing pantyliners, although it is brown sometimes when I pee. My incision hurts but is healing nicely, no complications. I'm ready and willing to get back to normal in the sack! Any advice?

TIA

i am right there with you...i never had any labor or dilation at all (scheduled c section), my bleeding only lasted 3 days - so even though it's only been like a week and a half since my c/s, i totally don't understand why i can't have sex. i'm feeling well/moving fine/etc - i never had an open or soft cervix, i'm done with afterbirth for a week now...why the holdup?!?! i strongly suspect that the 6 week thing is like a blanket statement that probably doesn't apply universally, even though it is told to everyone universally.

does anyone know the answer here? is there actually some danger?

I believe that while it may seem like 6 weeks is a standard blanket statement, what needs to be taken into consideration is if you do -

FWIW, my understanding is that the type of birth you have doesn't really matter. Emergency c, scheduled c or vaginal, you will be told 6 weeks, and in most cases that will cover it. (Of course, some things that can happen "down there" have a considerable effect on your comfort, but apparently not your safety.)

My doctor recommended waiting 6 weeks, which seemed really excessive.I had only dialated to 4 cm before i was taken for a c-section(baby's heartrate dropped),so it's not like i had any stitches or anything down there. But i can tell you,my DH and i tried right before 5 weeks, and we couldn't go through with it!It hurt so bad,i am not kidding you,we had to stop after a few seconds. It honestly felt like everything shrank in size down there, and he wouldn't fit(TMI).Someone recommended using lots of lubrication-Astroglide.I haven't tried again, cause i dread the disappointment if it doesn't work this time.

But i think if you feel up to it,and arent' bleeding anymore,i would go ahead and try.Just go slow slow slow...and i wish you better luck than i am having!

I spoke with my midwife today and she gave me the go-ahead after asking me if my bleeding had stopped - it seems that has something to do with it! She asked me if I felt ready of course and said if it hurts to stop! She said it takes alot longer for the insides of the incision to heal so it may hurt and from what other posters have said maybe Astroglide isn't such a bad idea! Hopefully the baby stays asleep long enough to try it!! I'll let y'all know LOL!
