My c-section is scheduled for May 1. So exactly 28 days.

The first time I labored for 12 hours, then was told heartrate was decelerating. It all worked out because I bled really bad anyway, so I most likely would have been wheeled back to surgery anyway.

All I remember of the first section is it was extremely painful for the

You are very welcome.

"I think if I ask they will listen, but some of my friends said they got their catheter before the spinal, but I think also that they didn't realize that they were allowed to ask."

I didn't know ANYTHING the first time around, I don't think I requested anything the second time either, other then when I can eat and a special med request. Third time and fourth time I did a bit better. Fifth time was really an emergency and there wasn't time. They wanted to give me morphine but having done poorly with it my first time my husband requested they give me something else. First, third and fifth times I had the catheter before any anesthesia. DEFINITELY HAVE IT DONE AFTER if they will. :)

That makes me feel so much better.

Everyone thank you for telling me that it should get better.

Especially springolife.

I had my sister tell me that I just couldnt' deal with pain and that none of her friends had that much trouble with their sections.

And it's true that some of her friends weren't in pain really. One of them didn't even take any pain pills at all.

Which she also didn't even labor so I think that had something to do with it.

Anyway, I remember even asking if I was dying because it truly hurt. I felt like I had been cut in half. But even at that rate, I didn't need the full amount of the pain pills except for the first day. I think I did okay considering what all happened.

My post partum nursing friend told me that she has patients that are literally on morphine drips because they are in such agony. All things considered, it could have been worse I think.

About the catheter thing, I think if I ask they will listen, but some of my friends said they got their catheter before the spinal, but I think also that they didn't realize that they were allowed to ask.

I agree with the others, subsequent Cs are much better. I just had my fifth and was up going to the bathroom and everything on my own. I remember after my first I felt like I was dying.

Talk to your DR about meds beforehand and have them written in your chart.

Sorry you had such a rough time with your first c-section....unplanned are tough!!!

As far as the meds question, my nurses were great about asking what meds I wanted, telling me the side effects, and everything was explained prior to doing it.

I asked my doc at the beginning of the pregnancy if I was going to bleed like I did last time.

He said, not necessarily.

I think I might ask about that again. I have this terrible fear of having a hysterectomy because they didn't heed my warnings about bleeding. (obviously, the doctor knows more than I do, I just am a worry wart)

I am hoping it was just a fluke the whole bleeding thing. The closer it gets the more freaked out I get. Yet it's not as bad. I don't know how to explain it.

I won't freak out for a while, but then when I do, boy it's a doozy of a freak out.

Congratulations on expecting a new little one! :)

I agree with the PP - Writing a birth plan is a great idea for you. You give it to your OB, discuss it with her/him and they will typically add it to your chart. When you go

A repeat, scheduled section is usually easier to recover from than a section after labor.
