There may be good news for moms-to-be: A new study finds that women in labor and delivery may not have to forgo all nutrition or rely solely on ice chips to rehydrate, as is typically the case now.

Researchers say that allowing women to drink a protein shake during labor actually led to higher satisfaction rates among the laboring moms.

Interesting!  BTD T mams- what did you have to eat/drink during your last labor?

Very important: If you don't like it when you aren't pregnant, you definitely won't like it when you are in labour. The midwife suggested Gatorade to drink. BAD idea. I ended up sipping on a mixture of 7-Up and orange juice. Also, eat light. I have heard of some women having their husband sneak in orange slices to squeeze over the ice chips. I'm not sure how they pulled that one off, LOL!

Wow. Wouldn't it be hard to keep up your stamina with no real nutrition? I mean, some labors can last many many hours right? Seems like you would run out of energy.

Really? But if you run out of energy, it makes it hard to put up with contractions, and they feel painful, thus causing you to ask for pain relief. Also, if you run out of energy, your body slows down, you don't dilate on schedule, the baby's hearbeat starts to flucuate and this translates to something appearing wrong, resulting in a surgical birth.
