Getting back on an antidepressant???

Hello everyone.  I'm a stay at home mother of three children.  Age 5, 3, and 1.  I have had to take Zoloft antidepressant occassionally throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding at points with all three of my kids.  I've currently been antidepressant free for about 6 months.  About 75% of the time I feel great.  I'm still breastfeeding my one year old so from experience with this sometimes I still just feel "bla" and lack of sexual interest but it is way better being off of zoloft.  Lately though I'm EXTREMELY irritable and short tempered.  Some days even feeling the blue's again and somewhat depressed with a touch of anxiety.  I've really considered getting back on zoloft.  My husband and I are considering having a 4th child.  We're still very unsure but know that it could be a possibility.  I'm concerned if I go back on the zoloft only to have to wean off of it if I decide to get pregnant or it just happens.  I've weaned off of zoloft and am quite familiar with it but i've never done the weaning process during pregnancy.  Of course my answer is to just try to stay off of it until a pregnancy occurs.  That's obviously the best choice but we don't even know if that will happen at all.  I'm just concerned about zoloft during pregnancy and if there would be concerns weaning off of it during early pregnancy.  Because at this point I need to be the best mom I can be to the 3 that I have and I'm wondering if I need to get back on it.  I'm new here so any thoughts would be welcomed! Thank you.

Hi there,

Have you ever tried something other than Zoloft?  I know my doctor told me that Prozac is perfectly safe to take during pregnancy and beyond.  Perhaps there is another medication out there that would work for you that would be safe to take before, during, and after your pregnancy?    It sounds like you recognize the signs well of needing some medication so I'd suggest talking to your doctor to see what options you have.  Best of luck to you and please let us know how you are doing!

Hi there,

I wanted to take a moment to check in with you to see how you are doing.  Have you decided on what route you'll be taking regarding the medication? Please stop in and update us when you have a chance!
