Well, I haven't posted in about 3 months due to me being off work. I rarely get on my computer at home. I was due May 7th attempting to VBAC for my second time. On May 13th they attempted induction with pitocin due to an ultrasound that said the baby was getting large. Pitocin from 8am to 5pm...nothing. Dr. sent me home not wanting to stress my uterus. May 16th induced again with pitocin from 8am to 5pm...nothing. I told the doctor I did not want to do it again...was waiting until at least 2 weeks past due date...he warned that baby might be large. May 23rd went in for last induction...if not successful would c-section as I was 2 weeks and 1 day past due date...placenta would begin to "break down" and ultrasound indicated large baby...large head. Induced with pitocin at 8am, broke water at 11am...begged for epidural but had progressed too quickly and began to push at 12noon. Having a hard time bringing baby down with contractions and pushes and the baby's heartrate showed stress. Dr. used suction cup, kept popping off...used larger suction cup popped off a couple of times but finally got baby down to vaginal opening when he realized he had me in the suction cup...had to let it go. Baby began to stress more so he got the forceps out...ugh! Tried a couple of times with forceps...CLICK!...couldn't get a good hold. Told nurses to start prepping for c-section...tried one more time with forceps and yes......he told me to push with everything I had...because if not this time we would c-sec. I PUSHED PUSHED PUSHED and there she came with her 15 inch head and the cord around her neck. He said the combination of those two things were why she wasn't dropping like she should. She weighed 9 pounds and 6 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long. Her first apgar was 5, her second 9. She is doing great! She is now almost 11 weeks old, weighs 16 pounds and is 24 1/2 inches long. My recovery was horrible...I tore so bad it took 45 minutes to sew me up . Yes, I am glad that I got to VBAC...but the recovery was every bit as bad as my ceserean. And, I don't know that the "experience of vaginal birth" was worth the pain of my delivery or recovery. So, I have three very different stories...an emergency c-section, an absolutely wonderful vbac and a vbac from hell! Just never know until it all happens. But, every delivery was worth what I got in return...three beautiful girls!!!!

Sherry,

Congratulations on the newest addition to your family!

Boy, it sure sounds like a vaginal birth from hell - something I'm hoping to avoid this time around. I remember recovery from the vacuum getting me (and the nurses saying to NOT look down below for at least a week!). But, I didn't have the injuries from the forceps. It sure sounds stressful towards the end (and I remember hating the thought of a ceasarean as I was pushing with all I could muster to get Rory out).

I hope that you've pretty much recovered from the tearing and that you are able to enjoy Hailee. She sure sounds like a big girl (I can't remember when Rory hit 16 pounds, but I don't think it was at 11 weeks!.) He also had the big giant head thing going, making it difficult to push him out (15 inches as well). But, I wouldn't say that Hailee was monster sized at birth. She probably just wasn't ready to come any earlier than she did.
