37 week appt. today. Update, m...

Hi all.

Just got back from my 37 week appt. Went well. Doc is still totally on board for a vbac attempt. I'll admit, every week I go, I keep waiting for her to change her mind, as I have heard that happens often, but she is still totally supportive. I feel very fortunate to be in w/ this group of docs. All 3 are very pro-vbac, and my hospital is also very pro-vbac. So that is definitely a plus.

She checked me today, and I am a fingertip dilated, and cervix is soft. Is that good progress for 37 weeks? With DD, cervix was not soft and I did not dilate at all until I went into labor.

It's funny how different 2 pregnancies can be. With DD, she did not go head down until 40 weeks, I had major swelling and blood pressure issues, etc. This time around, DS went head down at 30 weeks, no swelling, blood pressure has been great throughout. I am hoping these good factors will play a role in my having the vbac. It just seems like the cards were stacked against me the first time around.

That is great that your ob is so supportive. Sounds like things are in your favor this time. That is good that your cervix is starting to get ready for labor. I started at 35 wks with dd, dilated to fingertip and effacing but at 39 wks I had not gone into labor yet, but was 2-3 cm and almost 80% effaced. Who knows when I would have gone into labor, I was induced. :( You could ask at your next appt if your cervix is anterior (easier to reach) or posterior. As it readies for labor it gets more anterior.

Congrats, can't wait to hear all these April birth stories!

It sounds like you had a great appointment! I really hope the CNM group I'm using for this pregnancy ends up being all pro-VBAC. But, you never know - and there's still the OBs they work 'under' to figure out. I've already been given a heads up for the new 'knife' happy OB (after the one I hated last time around left the practice).

Unlike you, I've never been more than a little soft at my checks up until labor started. Hopefully, that's a good sign that labor will go a little faster for you!
