Had an u/s today

My doctors tried to pull the "Let's see how much baby weighs" card. Ds#1 was 10 lb, 2 oz, so all along they've been saying, "Well, we'll do the VBAC, but if it's another 10 pounder..." Blah, blah, blah. I went along with it because I was very interested in making sure that he was well-positioned. After last time (when we found out ds#2 was breech after I went into labor), I wanted to know for sure, not just a guess based on the doctor palpating my abdomen.

Anyway, no monster baby this time!! I'm 37 wks 5 days, and his estimated weight was 3100 to 3300 grams. 3300 grams = 7 lbs 4 oz. So, even with the inaccuracy of u/s estimates at this point, there is no way they can get on my case about this one! :)

Oh, and he still has a penis. Drat!!

Judy,

So glad to hear you don't have a big ol' whopping baby! Can't wait to hear your birth story!

Congratulations on growing a smaller baby this time! I too had a 10.2 oz breech and scheduled a c/d @ 38 weeks. How did you manage to grow a smaller baby this time? I am currently pg with #2 and am 10 weeks. I really want to manage my weight more this time. Is that what you did?

Not on purpose, but I suppose I did. Actually, I intended to manage it on purpose, but ended up not having to. The last two babies, I was working full time in an office environment--lots of desk work and loooooooooong meetings, with not a lot of time for lunch (so it usually ended up being Wendy's or something similar).

This time I was teaching in a college 2 full days and 2 half days per week. I did still do the fast food thing some days, but I also took my lunch quite a bit, as I only had a half hour to eat. On my two half days, I was eating lunch at home before I went to work, so that wasn't a problem. Since I was either on my feet teaching or on my feet chasing a toddler around the house, I have only gained about 20 lbs, and I'm 38 wks right now. I gained about 35 lbs the past two times--still well within the limits of normal, but probably the cause of the big babies.

Of course, I've read that u/s weigh estimates can be plus or minus 2 lbs at this stage in the game, so we'll see how things turn out! I'm just glad it didn't give my doctors an excuse to get nervous on me.

Gotta love those weight "guesstimates" when they work in your favor, right? :)

I, too had a big baby the first time around (9 lbs. 15 oz.), and the u/s estimate for my next baby was about 7.5 lbs., so nobody was sweating the vbac too much. Turns out she was 9 lbs. 2 oz. - but by the time we found THAT out, I'd had my vbac already.

Hope you have the same luck - and a smaller baby (yeeouch!)

Judy,

I love when the weight estimates come in your favor! I'm not sure how much the weight you gain really makes for the baby's weight. I gained a TON (60 pounds) with Rory who weighed 8 lb. 6 ounces at almost 42 weeks gestation. The extra weight all went to my hips and thighs (and didn't all leave before this one started 'baking in the oven'.)

And, you crack me up about him still having a penis!!!! Where you hoping for pink like I am this time? I refuse to find out at the ultrasound in 2 weeks for fear I'd really resent this pregnancy and lament the baby's sex all the way to delivery.

LOL! Yes, I was hoping for pink, but it was not to be.

I don't know--I recommend you find out. Then you'll have the rest of your pregnancy to resign yourself to life in a testosterone-ridden household. I am planning the world cruise that we are going to take for what it would cost to give a girl a wedding. :)

Well, Judy-

I've already got suspicions that it's another boy. And, I don't feel the strong urge to have it confirmed.

I know not everyone believes in the power of dreams, but I've had a few that were prophetic in nature. During the second trimester of the pregnancy with Rory, both my dad and I dreamt that I was carrying another boy. I should have written the dream down, because now I can't recall if the woman in the dream told me I was to have 3 boys before a girl or if it was 3 grandsons for my mom before a granddaughter. All because my mom had 3 girls and no boys, according to the dream. My mom currently has 3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter (born after the three boys), so maybe it'll work out that way. We'll have to see if my aunt has another premonition. She predicted my sister was carrying a girl before the u/s confirmed it and told my mom I'd have a child this year before I'd told anyone I thought I was pregnant. My mom's now calling her a witch (not in a mean way, though) and hoping she'll predict a girl for me!

Then, yesterday the baby's heartrate was on the low side (138) - something that old's wives tale says would indicate a boy.

But the Chinese Gender predictor says its a girl (and it was right for the boys)! So, who knows......

And, the upside of another boy is that I'll already have all the clothes in all the right sizes for all the seasons!

That was actually my main reason for finding out--I needed to know if I could go on a spending spree or not. :)
