I just got back from a great midwife appointment-- I'm feeling good, am measuring where I should, and best of all, my baby boy is head down.

So glad to hear that you are in position, sending a prayer your way that the little guys stays put. Classes are great, I don't know much about the ones you're taking but my Bradley classes have helped give me faith in my body and a great understanding of the birth process and the real pros and cons of all the interventions and other things they do when you arrive at the hospital so I know what is ok and what I would like to avoid. I think that however your birth story reads you will have a great sense of peace knowing that you did the very best for yourself and baby. Congrats on your prep and best wishes with everything. Too bad about DH but he can catch up when he gets home:-) I look forward to your birth story!

I discovered Birthing From Within through my cousin, who is a VBAC mama and a doula. It's a program created by a nurse midwife who is also a VBAC-er. It's not really an "education program"-- the focus isn't on medical information at all, but rather on using expressive mediums (writing, art, etc) to process beliefs, assumptions, and fears about childbirth and parenting. It also has a lot of pain management and relaxation techniques integrated in the classes. It's a good fit for me, I think, because looking back at my last pregnancy, I spent a lot of time researching medical information, but didn't allow myself to really face my fears (especially around my cervix being able to dilate, and my worries about the hospital)-- and in labor, they came up and I didn't know how to deal with them. I'm also very much a "left-brain" person and revert to logic when I'm under stress. That works great in my job, but is *not* where I need to be in labor. I'm hoping that the classes will help me be less analytical, and more in the moment.

Here's their website: http://www.birthingfromwithin.com/

Skype is a terrific web-based telephone and videoconferencing program-- it's free, even for international calls. We use it a lot so that my DD can talk to her grandparents when they're in FL, and we're going to use it daily while my DH is in Japan. :)
