Can I join and how did I not know about this board??

I'm Pam in central IL - married to dh for 30+ years. Our boys are 23 and 26. I've been around Ivillage forever - I think I found it back when it was Parentsplace/Parentsoup back when my oldest was about 10. I've cl'd a few boards, many of which are gone now, most of which have very little activity after their big 'upgrade' a year or two ago... Just glancing at some of the names I suspect I 'know' some of you Smile And I see that I've double posted on my very first post - can't figure out how to delete one.... Hope you don't kick me out.

Hi Pam-I think I recognize you from "LONG ago"(In a faraway land-called the board for Grades 9&10). Then I was nora.adamsmom-& at one point I was CL there. Alas-I am no longer Adam's mom-he died this past April(which isn't why I changed my sign in name-I changed it because we got a new computer & I could not be bothered trying to convince iVillage I was the same person).

I am still the Mom of 3 other kids-however, they probably aren't even kids either. Come early May, they will all be in their 40's-although I'm not sure how that happened because I certainly don't feel old enough. I do enjoy the 6 grandchildren the 2 girls gave me-our son is kid free & I guess intends to stay that way. As I mentioned in the post to Elspeth, we are preparing to move in the Spring-after 31years living in the country in Eastern Ontario, we are going to move to south-western Ontario(hopefully into town) to be closer to 3 of the grandchildren & our son. We no longer need 4 bedrooms & the appeal of almost 5 acres without Adam to enjoy it is gone. It's been a tough decision-we came here mainly to help Mom after my Dad died, but now it's time to think of ourselves. The nest is empty & we've spent more than 44years caring for someone else-kids or Mom. Losing Adam was not unexpected-he'd always been sick, not wanted but not unexpected. Now we need to look to an easier future with just Mike & I.

So welcome to our board-we're not a huge group. But everyone is supportive-sometimes painfully direct. I have to confess that the other day, I was sitting here  feeling sad & missing Adam-I found the spot where Adam's death was noted & just reading everyone's comments-most people had never met him-& I felt so much better. I will never stop missing him-but it was nice to know that my friends here care. And that's what everyone is-friends. So welcome to our friendly board. Elspeth is an excellent CL (but don't tell her I said so-it might go to her head).

Glad you came over, Pam.   I thought you knew about us.  The regulars are a small but tenacious group.   Kelly and Liz come every so often.  Rose used to, but not anymore.   Despite all the aggravation IVillage has caused, I will probably hang on till the bitter end.  EVEN THO I STILL CAN"T POST FROM MY MOBILE, AND IT'S BEEN A YEAR.  I find the people here to be closest to my "sensibilities" than at any other site.

Welcome Pam. You will see a few familiar names. As others mentioned, we are a small group but we usually manage to keep some conversations moving. Please feel free to jump in anytime anywhere---you know the drill!

Hi Nora - Yes I do remember you. I'm so sorry for your loss. Even if it's 'expected' I can't imagine anything worse than to lose a child. Best of luck to you as you start this next chapter of your life with your move. Looking forward to reconnecting with you and others here!

You too  seem familiar in name but that may be because in years past I surfed around boards for a while and maybe I remember your name from then?  Anyway I am glad you made your way to find us here.  Our group is not so large and we always enjoy welcoming a new member.  Please jump in and join the posting, Pam!

Welcome Pam, I recognize your name too but can't remember from where. I'm Dee & like Nora, I'm from Ontario. We did the opposite of what Nora is looking to do next Spring. We moved out of the city 2 yrs ago when I was planning to retire. I have 3 kids (DD 33, DS1 31 & DS2 27 in 3 wks), 2 grandkids (6 & 5 mths) & a dog who is my baby now the kids are grown.

This is a great group of woman. Dee
