First day of Summer!
Fri, 06-21-2013 - 11:22am

Which also means its the Longest Day of the Year. Just how long is the day where you are? Tell us the time of sunrise and sunset for your area, and if possible include the hours of daylight so we don't have to do the math LOL (the weather sites usually include that data). That also means the shortest night of the year, which would explain why I'm so tired this morning!

Are you planning to commemorate the occasion in any way? A glass of wine on the deck while watching the sunset?

I heard that the "Super Moon" will be in the sky on Sunday the 23rd, the largest and closest full moon of the year. Hope that you are able to view it. Maybe another glass of wine while watching the moon rise? Wink

Here in San Diego the sun rose at 5:41am and will set at 8:00pm, for 14 hrs 19 mins of daylight.

So far no particular plans to ring in summer. A restaurant that I like has a deal on the 21st of each month that they sell their yummy housemade Sangria for 21 cents per glass, so I was telling dh that maybe we should try to go there this evening for Happy Hour. Don't know if it will happen though. Maybe I'll just make some Tinto de Verano and sip it on the front porch at sunset.

Hopefully we can view the full moon but the weather site says it will be cloudy. Last night the clouds didn't roll in until very late, hoping for the same on Sunday.

Typical summer weather hit today here in STL with a vengeance - hot, sticky - supposed to be in the 90s with a 3 digit heat index all weekend.  Blech.  Glad we have the pool.  Tomorrow we are supposed to go to the Cards game with MIL - I'm seriously wondering if she'll back out - it's a 6:15 game but it's also a big picnic ahead of time, etc. for dh's hospital group so that's part of the deal (hot dogs, apples, soda/water, chips, cookies) - We don't plan on getting there that early with this heat!

Summer?  Doesn't feel like summer here!  First of all the temperature right now is 12 C. which is abot 52 F.  And it's cloudy, it's raining and so we probably won't see any actual sunset today to mark the longest day of daylight.  The sun rose at 5:21 a.m. and will set at 9:55 p.m. That makes it 16 hours and 33 minutes of daylight. Of course we'll have the daylight, if not the sunshine, so maybe not quite so bright as it could be if the sun was shining and not behind all this cloud!

We may get some nice sunny weather this weekend.  So we'll see.  Meanwhile it may take some time for the flooding to recede even if the sun shines.

At this point, we just want the flooding to go away....and the rain!

Our sunrise was at 5:23am & sunset at 8:54pm-meaning 15hr & 31min. Today was a lovely day-sunny & warm-getting up to about 24C (about 80F)& the humidity was comfortable at 54%. Great day to sit outside & watch the garden grow.

Alas & Alack-the rain from out West is heading this way-we are to have rain for most of the next week. Not to the amount that Shirley has had-but enough that I probably won't be sitting out much. Oh well-the garden needs the moisture too.

Nora, don't worry. I doubt that we will be getting the rain from out west. It was caused by a unique system , called an "blocked" jet stream fuel by moist air from the Gulf of Mexico stalling over the Rockies.

Next week it is going to be in the 80s and 70s with a 30 to 40% chance of rain. And like every humid summer day here, we might get thunderstorms in the early evening. Sounds like a typical summer days in eastern Ontario.

Could be worse. It could be snow!

A day late but I assume today is not much different from yesterday.  Sunrise 6:29 Sunset 8:36  so a little over 14 hours.  No celebration, just enjoying the chance to ride my bike before work.
