I hereby revoke your honourary Canadian status & allow you to return to your American citizenship, as today is the day you want to celebrate your own country's birthday. Your country is older than mine, more heavily populated than mine & considered the world's one remaining SuperPower. It's a title that comes with responsibilities that must weigh heavily on the shoulders of those with young men & women in your armed forces for those oppressed or in trouble often cry for help from the USA.

We, in Canada, often hear & see news about those who live south of our borders. We learn what is happening there-probably more than we do about any other area in the world. I heard the other day that while President Obama isn't one to use the codes for security alerts the way his predeccor did (we were constantly bombarded with Code Orange or Code Red under President GW Bush)-he must still remain aware of the dangers. And we also know how much our 2 leaders like (or don't)one another-how friendly they really are (or aren't).

So enjoy today to celebrate your national pride-yours is a country that often stands alone on its principles & must make decisions that affect others outside its borders. I am a proud Canadian who lives very close to the border-& watches your country & its people too. Outwardly, there isn't a lot of difference-but inwardly there seems to be some differences in a lot of us. And those differences are what make us good friends.

Happy Fourth of July to all of you!

Thank You very much, Nora.  I know Anthony spent the morning with his American Legion Riders, not only celebrating our freedom, but also remembering the fallen.

Our day has been low key, as both kids did their own thing for BBQ and fireworks. They were all here on the 2nd, for Rae's 33rd B-day.  We had a fiesta, and a lot of fun, that day, so we didn't miss them today.   I can watch the fireworks from our deck tonight, as it's breezy enough to keep the bugs at bay.  Ed has never been one for crowds and always dreaded taking the kids & I to see the fireworks, so this works for everyone.  It's been loud for hours now, so I suspect it will be a very pretty night.  Happy 4th to everyone.

I wish everyone of our U.S. members a Happy Fourth of July  (a little late!).  Well, depending on where you live in the U.S. you have either enjoyed some fireworks or are about to?  I happened to have the t.v. on this evening and saw on an American station the Macy's 4th of July fireworks in Manhattan.  Well, wasn't that spectacular!  Hope you are enjoying the rest of the day!

Thank you Nora. Sorry I'm so late in responding but on Friday I had a lot of problems with logging in and then getting a post to stick, so I just didn't bother trying for the rest of the weekend. Am I the only one who has noticed that weekends and holidays seem to be problematic on the boards?

We had a nice 4th, at home. Our weather warmed up with increased humidity (of course, nothing like what some of you experience) so I wasn't moving too fast. Our city has a big fireworks display set off from several barges in the bay and we can see them in the distance from our front porch or from the park across the street. We went over there to watch at 9pm. When the official display ended the illegal one started in the park (fireworks are illegal in this county but legal in the county to the east and in Mexico to the south). From 9:30 to 10pm it sounded like a war zone over there, somebody had so many really loud smoky fireworks ending with what sounded like a cannon. I was very glad when it ended.

Lots of loud fireworks here too - ds was out with friends a lot and his kitty just did NOT like the boomers - she'd dive under his bed and stay there. Poor little fuzzball!  We did a few at the house but nothing as loud as all that.  Had 20 of the 24 total immediate family over Thursday night after work - only because the 3 out of towners only overlapped that night - would not choose to come home and cook for a crowd like that after work!  But it was nice anyway. No one got in the pool; not sure why; the water was warm enough.

Right now it's warmer than it was over the weekend - July is definitely here in STL - when we walked at lunch it was 90 with a heat index of 99; at least there was a little breeze. Expecting rain soon, for the next couple of days. Was nice having that long weekend - was a lump most of the day yesterday!
