What's everyone doing this weekend? I think that this was the day for Dee to head off on her tropical vacation, she may be on the beach sipping a rum cocktail as I type! I think that everybody else is at home.

Yesterday I got my flu shot. I was at Costco and there were no customers at the pharmacy so I asked if they had it. They said yes, the injectible needed about 10 minutes out of refrigeration but otherwise it would be quick so I went for it. So now that's out of the way for this season. It didn't hurt much during the injection but boy was my arm sore later. Today it occured to me that there was no discussion of insurance...they didn't ask and I forgot to ask. My insurance did not allow it in the past so I'm used to just paying "out of pocket" for it, but I think that last year it was covered 100% and Costco billed them. I guess I can submit a claim for reimbursement...what a hassle but $15 isn't chump change.

Do you get an annual flu shot? Does your health plan pay for it? Where do you get it?

Hope that you are all enjoying this last weekend of September!

Long past Saturday-but I will answer this anyway now-on Monday.

Our weekend was spent visiting a friend from nursing school days. Kathy had a knee replacement & knowing that nurses make terrible patients (or so I've heard! LOL)I thought we'd go to relieve her partner of his nursing duties & while there, he & Mike could scope out the area as a potential for us to move into. It fit the criteria as a place within an hour (approx.)of Karen & Marshal-& it is a lovely spot, with housing prices well within our range. So it has been added to the list. Our neighbours kept the dogs-they love going there, but also love coming home again, so it's a win/win situation for them. The cats are a bit huffy at being left alone for 2 days-but are now back to making pests of themselves-so all is returned to normal. Mike & I are slowly becoming accustomed to the idea of having the freedom that comes with Empty-nest.

As for the 'flu shot-yes, we both get it. And as long as we are well when receiving it, there aren't any serious side-effects. Of course, living in Ontario, we don't have to worry about being covered by insurance, it easily falls under Universal Health Care. It was imperative when we were working in the hospital system-then with Adam & his compromised immune system-now it is a habit & just a good thing to have (I was going to add "At Our Age"-but that sounds awful-so forget it!).

No, her dog did not come with her.   She was afraid of him jumping around too much which would not be good for either her or him.  He injured his back a few weeks so they have to keep his movement restricted.   She still has restrictions on her movement but her boyfrend can take care of their dog's needed.

They did not do reconstruction, they just put in spacers.   The final resonstruction will be after radiation.  Since she has used up all of her PTO it will probably be next year.

'Nester, good to see you back here. I guess you've been busy nursing your dd. It sounds like her recovery is going well if she might go home today. And what nice parents to give up their bedroom for the "patient". Has her dog been staying at your house too? Will she be able to care for the dog yet? I'm thinking that bending over to the floor is uncomfortable still or maybe even not yet allowed....and a doxxy is pretty close to the floor!

Just wondering, did she have reconstruction/augmentation at the time of the mastectomy?

Yes, I do get an annual flu shot.  It was manditory when I was active duty and I have kept up most years  I do not know if it will be covered by insurance as we changed companies last Jan.  Last year the insurance company we had covered it completely, the previous year the company we had did not cover any of it. I think it was the first week of Oct when I got mine last year so I will probably get it done on Fri, as I get it done at CVS which is right across the street from my bank where I deposit my paycheck.

Yesterday's theme seemed to be shopping.   In the morning I did my normal grocery shopping.   Then I went jean shopping.   Went to Lowes and out to lunch with DH and DD1.  While at Lowes we were looking through the Christmas stuff.  Got a new nativity scene for me and a lighted dachshund for DD1.  She has a dachshund and collects dachshund things.  Then last evening I bought a dress on line.  I have at couple of social events coming up this fall/winter.

DD1 is still staying here but yesterday we switched rooms with her.  She has been staying in the master bedroom because we have a sleep number bed which lift the head up but she has recovered to where she no longer needs it.  She was getting a bit too comfortable in there.  She was pretty much spending all day in there and she needs to be up and moving.  Plus we wanted to be back in our own space.  The guest room has no TV so at the minimum it means she has to leave the room if she wants to watch TV.  She may be moving back to her own place today so I do not think it really matters in the long run.

It stormed yesterday afternoon/evening and more in the forecast for today,

DH has lactose and some egg intolerance and usually the shots have something like that in them. I rarely get sick even when everyone around me does (knock on wood!)

Remodeling - well, I told dh to let the guy doing it go, as he'd spent over 2.5 weeks on it and had a very expensive hourly rate (more than I make, for sure!), so now it's up to dh, which means it's at a snail's pace. We can use the room but the cabinets aren't in and the trim isn't done. I ordered wood blind 'swatches' yesterday to choose the right color so we can have privacy again in there. I think since it's usable he's not in a big rush to do all the detaily stuff!

Dress - not sure why. I guess I see some cute stuff out there and want to wear it too - I can't at work so figured this was an opportunity and it might just start again slowly when we go to our rep theater too! Found it on Land's End overstocks so it was well within budget. See pic I found below.

As for the jeans, finding any with a 33 inseam is always tough - still can't believe my luck.

This was day one of the Artember event at the train club park... well, an art and cultural 'happening' all over the province but which the train club participated in by offering free rides on their miniature railway.  I offered a number of cartoon drawings the children could colour - with tables and crayons set up in the train club's train station.  Parents and children arrive, ride the train and then some stay to sit and colour and draw for a time.  It's easy work...not work really.... overseeing the event - handing out raffle tickets so they can write their name and phone number for a draw for some little prizes.  The children are so cute....from babies to school aged.

Tomorrow is the same thing...round 2!  Then we'll be back home and at least one if not two sons of ours will be here for dinner, an easy pasta dinner with Italian sausage.

And that's what's happening for my weekend.

Uneventful weekend for me. Its hot and arid here (humidity was in the teens earlier) so I got out early to water the garden, and will do the same on Sunday morning. The good news is that the evenings are cool so I can open the windows at night to cool off the house. Drinking lots of water and slathering on hand lotion.

Did a round of errands in the afternoon including the pet store---Miss PickyEater will only eat the pate type of cat food and likes Whiskas in the little square tray, which I can buy only at Petsmart. And I only got her 1 new cat toy! But now we're stocked up for another month.

Tomorrow night dh returns from his business trip/visit with dd. I'm looking forward to getting a report on how she is doing.

I have a song stuck in my head this weekend: Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven". I love that song, so high energy. At least its a good song stuck in my head!

Last few days for the iTunes Festival...has anybody else been watching it?

Sue, that is amazingly lucky that you found the jeans, with tags, at a resale shop.

You haven't worn a dress or skirt in almost 20 years? LOL. Did you just go shopping recently and find a dress you liked? I'm surprised you decided to break your "streak" and not just wear a pantsuit or slacks ensemble to the wedding.

I got sick after a flu shot once--I was feeling like I was coming down with something when I got it, and evidently if you're at all sick when you get it then you will get more sick. Ever since then I make sure that I feel well when I get the shot. Hopefully all of your coworkers got the shot and none of them can give YOU the flu!

How's remodeling going?

I've never gotten a flu shot - they had them free at work this week. DH has to as he works in a hospital, but he always gets sick after having one.

Tons of odds and ends chores today - tried to find a pair of jeans that fit last weekend and found a pair today - I have a particular style of Laurens I like and I don't think they're made any more but I found one at a local resale place, and they were new with tags.  Can't believe it! The one pair they had and it was in my size. Felt very lucky.  Made brownies, did laundry including the den drapes, finished a book, finished another on CD, ironed, got to the library and grocery, started packing for a k family wedding in Ohio next weekend (first time I'll wear a dress/skirt since '95).

Tomorrow we go see Rush with fellow F1 friends, and have dinner with them.

Yesterday my boss wanted me to take comp time for a long night I had earlier in the week so I met dh at our science center and we saw a planetarium show and a 'new' Omnimax show; then we came home and picked up ds and went to dinner - was nice.

Right now we're just hearing the start of rumbles - storm on the way.
