How is your weekend so far?

Anybody watching the World Cup? How about the Tour de France? Or are you getting outside, weather permitting?

Dh is watching the Cup game for third place right now, and he will certainly be watching the final game on Sunday afternoon. We've been watching the TdeF off and on, sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the evenings.

Tonight there is another concert in the park across the street, I'll enjoy the music (hopefully enjoy lol) while working in the yard. Its getting too hot to be out there during the day but after 5 or 6pm its pretty nice. The humidity here is coming up and the HVAC guy can't come over until late next week so I may have to run the AC even with the musty smell.

Other than that its same old, same old. Friday night at dinner The Boss gave me a project due Tuesday morning, this is the downside of working for your dh! So this weekend I'll probably try to get started on that one and finish up another. The good part is that I can set my own schedule.

I've heard that the Midwest is getting unusually cool weather for July, hope that Sue and Sabr are enjoying it while it lasts!

Cool - LOLOL - um, it's cooling off today and right now after 5pm the heat index is 100.  Ugh.  My one friend and I went to a local boutique to get some soaps and such for family while we waited to go to lunch and then a brewery tour for Schlafly - very fun mid morning diversion. Otherwise just staying inside, keeping cool, waiting for tomorrow's rain. Need to finish a book before Monday (it's good but I'm a slow reader - the 2nd Robert Galbraith/JK Rowling book), doing laundry, need to then iron, need to do some weeding on our berm in the yard (but want to wait for it to cool off).

Not sure what's on the agenda for tomorrow; I know dh will want to mow but it's supposed to rain.

Forgot to mention dh and I were going to go to a concert in the park last night but the heat index was 102 at 7pm so we said nah!

This morning we (meaning Ray and myself) decided to go to a C.P.R. (Canadian Pacific Railway - the company he used to work for most of his working years) free Stampede pancake breakfast.  During this Calgary Stampede 9 day period many organizations, companies, etc. put on pancake breakfasts either for their employees or the public.  This was for the public - though chances are not everyone knew of it, but Ray heard of it through the grapevine.  So off we went at 10:00 (they were only going to start serving at 10:00) and it was quite a hot day here - sun shining, no clouds - a high of 28 or maybe even 30 C. (82 to 86 F).  (I know, not as hot as some experience here daily maybe in the summer and we hardly ever even have the humidity!). Ended up having to park about a football field length away from the festivities (me and my gimpy knees!) and then after a short while lined up in one of three lines to get our pancakes (all outside, cooking, serving and eating the food).  Well, no sooner and there is a loudspeaker announcement saying they will be ending serving food at 12:00 because they won't have enough for the intended 1:00 closing time!  It was 11:30 at that point.  Chances are we might have gotten some food but we happened then to be last in line as they were not allowing anyone else to line up after us (or some people just gave up and left!).  Ray looked at me and asked, "Want to go to a restaurant for lunch instead of this?"  I said "Gladly" - I was hot and tired and we didn't even know what would be left for us in food, if they had enough.  So off we went to IHOP for what else...pancakes and sausage!

Not much planned other wise for today.  But tomorrow we shall have Patrick and Eric over for dinner.  Christine is working tomorrow.  No plans to watch any of the World Cup - though then again, we may have it on t.v. tomorrow when the boys are here (what time is it on anyway?).  And no, we don't watch the Tour de France.  We'll barbecue supper tonight and tomorrow.  Maybe if it's not too hot (honestly, eh?) we'll sit out on our deck to eat supper.

This time of year early morning is the only time I want to spend outside so this morning I took  a 5+ mile walk.

When I got home I did my regular grocery shopping trip then after lunch DH and I did some shopping errands.

The only other plan for the weekend is to see the new Transformers movie in the morning. Have been trying to catch it the last three weeks but have not made it yet. We will see if the third time is the charm.

We have concerts here that sound like yours but ours are "Music on the Square"  downtown.  Because of the temps ours are in the spring, March through May.  DH and I went to I think 4 this year.  We took advantage of the time downtown to check out a couple of restarants we had not tried before. One a BBQ place neither one of us was impressed with.  The other we are a bit mad at ourselves for not trying it out sooner (they have been there about 10 years). They have what we both agreed are the best hamburgers we have found here.  But it is more of a bar that serves food rather than a restaurant (which is probably why we did not try them out sooner) so I do not think we will be spending much time there.  But being only about a mile from our house it is a good option to call for carry out.  They have live music both inside and on the patio and when they are playing on the patio we can here it from our house. But not well enough to actually listen to it  we can just tell that there is music.

So far our weekend has been good. Yesterday we went to visit Ryan & Betty at their trailer-on another part of "our" lake. They had invited us a couple weeks ago-& gone to much trouble to prepare a meal for us. They came to the house, informed us the Pugs were coming & got the invisible fence electric motor off the wall. So I took their collars off & their leashes on & we followed them to the trailer park. Mike & Ryan set up the limits so the dogs could almostreach the road-& they were set. And Ryan cooked everything over an open fire-spareribs, potatoes, broccoli, & corn-on-the-cob...what a feast. After it was done, we sat around the fire & talked. Today they were planning to go blackberry picking-& then coming here to make jam-but it's raining pretty hard, so I'm not sure how much they will pick. I'll probably give them the pots needed-I'm the only one who eats jam any more-so they might as well have the big pots. After making the jam, we'll have dinner here, of course. (but I do my cooking over a stove-not an open fire-though we do have a fire pit)

Our forecast for the coming week says the "Polar Vortex" is coming again-so rather than having temps in the mid to high 20's (C)-they will be about 10`cooler! That will be great because we don't have central A/C-we don't usually need it-but it seems hotter than usual this year-certainly more humid than usual.

Our weekend is done.  Saturday was shot because I watched Layla (nickname LUNGS) while her parents and all her aunts and uncles on her Daddy's side ran in the Chicago ROC Race.   They had a blast--Anthony & Rae dressed like PacMan and Ms PacMan.  I split an eardrum.  The kid cried for 6 hours, except for 45 minutes while she slept on my shoulder.  She even cried while she was eating.  Ed was working on the stairs down from the deck, and only came in the house to use the bathroom.  And then he stayed downstairs.   I had offered to watch her again NEXT Saturday, while they run in Rock & Roll Chicago, but now I'm having second thoughts.  (Next year, they ALL want to run, while we watch ALL the kids...)

So, today I had to sweep the house, go grocery shopping, and then we grilled when I got home.  Ed finished the stairtreads & risers, but still needs to do the railings.  Our polar vortex got mislaid.  Yesterday, it was hot & we had monsoons.  Today it was just hot and humid.  It MIGHT cool off tuesday, but then it will thunderstorm again.  Mack HATES thunder, and has to be underfoot, or on the back of the sofa, or the top of the bed, with his paws around my head.  Wednesday, I'm watching Layla again, while Rae has a second interview with a HS near their house.  Lolo is bringing her dogs over with Bree this week, because Will is out of town on business, so I will have 5 dogs an infant and a toddler.  So looking forward to this week.

BTW, for those who asked, Will's sister and her husband will be taking in her 13yo BIL.  Poor kid will need physical therapy for his surgically repaired legs, and he lost a spleen.  They didn't even tell him his parents were dead for 4 days, while he was in and out of surgery.  They have 3 kids of their own -- an 18mo girl, & 4yo & 7yo boys-- and are themselves only 29 & 32.  So hard, all around.
