It's a LONG Weekend :-)

At least here in Canada-Canada Day is Monday, so for those who are working-it automatically becomes a 3-day weekend. For those of us lucky enough to be retired-makes no never-mind...except traffic is heavier on the main roads as others try to get to where they plan to spend their holiday weekend!

We haven't made big plans-I think we are going to take the Pugs & travel about the area. We've become accustomed to being homebound in the past few years, suddenly we have the freedom to travel. And since these 2 have never gone anywhere but to the Vet-they need to get out too. We live in a very picturesque part of Ontario, a very old part-so we may go see different parts of the Rideau Canal system. Unfortunately, this weekend is like the rest of the season-wet & raining. But we aren't suffering floods like Alberta-so I shouldn't complain much.

What are your plans for the weekend? Is it hot where you are? Sunny? Raining? I need to go out & pick some greens from the garden & sweet talk my peas & beans-they have blossoms on them & I want to encourage them to go to the next step & get actual vegetables! I realize everything out there would be happier with sun-but maybe if I talk happy, it will be enough to inspire them? I would like to buy some Nasturtiums & Marigolds to plant among the tomatoes & potatoes-my marigolds among the tomatoes look great-green & wonderfully big-but no blooms to keep the pests away. So I need to buy some to do that! Next year will probably be the opposite-sunny & no rain!

Have a good day, all, & a good weekend too.

Spent the morning doing chores and errands.  Will spend the afternoon relaxing,   Tonight we are going to a ball game.

In the morning we are going to see White House Down.

The weather is super sunny and hot (for Calgary standards anyway) for the weekend (and beyond into the week, if the forecast stays as predicted).  Not much happening today.  I have sheets and towels to wash, as Michael left yesterday to fly back to Berlin.  I have plenty more other housework tasks to do - though I can't do them all - must measure out what I can physically accomplish with two sore, somewhat stiff knees (though pain medication does help).

For Sunday and Monday, Ray is committed to going to the train club where he will help run the ride-on trains for the public.  Normally the club park is not open to the public on weekdays, but it being Canada Day, they are open.  I will have to talk with the boys who may as usual come to supper here, but we may choose to have the family dinner on Monday.  I don't know if Christine can make it for supper that day.  She's not been able to get back to work yet at the bar/restaurant - as they still did not have power as of yesterday but perhaps soon they will and she's eager to getting back to work to make some money. I'll check in with her today to see what she's up to.

Those are the 'plans' for this long weekend.  Not so exciting.  But the weather is sure nice.  Lots of people would like to go camping but many of the usual campgrounds in the area just west and south of here have been washed out by all the flooding that happened in the area.

Just a "regular" weekend here, our long weekend being next weekend as Emptynester mentioned. Our weather is sunny and warm (felt like "hot" to me when I was out in it) and feels a little humid too. I was out watering and mulching this morning for a while. Have a lot more mulching to do, maybe this evening when the sun gets low.

This afternoon we're going to that retirement party, its from 3-7 but we don't intend to be there the entire time. That's all I know about it. I asked dh for details and he realized that he didn't have any. The husband phoned weeks ago to tell him to save the date and an invitation would follow, but when Enrique checked this morning he couldn't find anything. So he emailed the guy and hopefully he's checking email today. We don't even know where the party is being held! So far I'm assuming its a casual backyard thing and planning to wear capri's and a blouse, hope I don't get a big surprise.

Nothing special planned for tomorrow for me. The Tour de France started today so we will try to watch that every day for the next 3 weeks.

We're starting to plan for FIL's bday party which will be held 4 wks from today. Purchased the airfare for both kids to be here. Got one request from a SIL for her family to stay here (in addition to FIL/MIL and my kids) so all of the beds and sofas are now "reserved" although some floor space is still available. I heard that most of the others already planned to stay at a hotel. Also heard that all 3 of BIL's kids will be attending so we will have all of the cousins who "grew up together" here and together again for the first time in maybe a few years. I expect that FIL will be over the moon to be surrounded by most of his grandchildren and both great-grands.

Sunny, then rain, then sunny, still expecting more rain today.  Amazing sheets of rain.  Tried to go to our art museum's grand opening (new wing, etc.) with ds20 but no luck - they did a very poor job of providing parking for the publicity they gave the event. So we took a tour of Forest Park while trying to park, and left. We'll try again tomorrow, but earlier. Gorgeous, though - mid 70s during the day, low of 61 tonight and the humidity is tolerable - very unusual for STL this time of year. I'll take it!

Well, the bugs are back. Original message just disappeared leaving only the fact that I had posted. Let's try again.

Wishing everyone a Happy Canada Day today.

We are having a wonderful long weekend here. DS2 & DIL came up Thurs while we were at DD's for Noah's graduation from kindergarten. We brought DD & kids back with us on Fri. DS2 had to go back for the day yesterday to work but returned until Tues. I will take DD home next Mon. Her DH had to work this weekend as he supports US clients. He is deferring his day off until later in the mth when his family is home. Weather isn't the greatest & so pool has dropped to 70 but that doesn't stop Noah from swimming but I won't go in. We are getting lots of baby time & DIL is in love. I'm praying she sticks to her 5 yr plan as I think DS2 has enough stress trying to work & go to school. Oh well, it's not my business, lol.

Back to the kitchen, it seems that someone is always hungry. Dee
