I have been denied access to respond to Kathy's post below through the usual means.  Sometimes it works but sometimes it just doesn't and basically things are not working as they 'SHOULD'!  The one way I can actually post this post under a "New Discussion" is not the typical way either... I found another way to access this which is by clikcing the "See All Threads" listed below all the posts.

Kathy, I just wanted to say that everyone who has responded to  your post about being let go has much more advice to offer than I can, but I do want to wish you well through this rough period of adjustment - what a shock indeed that must have been to have that befall you like this!  I'm sure you will choose to do what suits you best - if it's employment, I hope you find what you will enjoy doing in that regard.  Who knows though...maybe you will take some time to just relax and have a holiday of sorts?

Hoping all goes well!

Shirley, you are so right that things here are not working as they should. Lots of people are having problems and are getting very frustrated. My preferred browser is Safari and it was working pretty well until a couple of weeks ago, when I started having additional difficulties with logging in and staying logged in as I moved between boards and even threads. I've noticed that Firefox works better than Safari (but I don't like to use FF as much because the print is very small) and some other members are saying that Google Chrome is working well lately. Internet Explorer seems to be the worst, is that the browser that you use?

I wish I had some words of advice other than to use a different browser (personally I don't think we should have to switch browsers to get a website to work properly); and I cannot say when the boards will be working properly. Yes it has been almost 6 months since the "upgrade" and I have been following the Help board for updates but they are few and far between, and the improvements don't seem to occur when they're slated anyway. Sorry to be Debby Downer here, can you tell that I am quite frustrated too?! When there is something positive to report I will be announcing it. In the meantime please try to be patient...our board is actually more active than many others, for that I am very thankful.

Shirley - this is for you.  I chucled but I do feel bad that you're having trouble replying to posts & mine of all things.  So, I thought I would reply to yours.  The visit with my supervisor happened Wed. March 27th.  According to the contract, my official last date of employment was March 29th.  I was scheduled to return tomorrow after 1 week of vacation.  So since the 27th, I've made my rounds seeing employees & managers that I knew, emptied out my locker, collected my last paycheck, applied for 1 job online, called about my 401K & as a splurge had fun shopping at Macy's buying 2 skirt suits.  Last Christmas, I requested a $100. Macy's gift card from my credit card Rewards points.  Since Macy's had an Easter weekend 15% off sale + I had an additional 15% off email, it was Macy's, here I come.  Bought 2 business skirt suits.  Now for the embarrassing part - I already have suits in my closet which I haven't worn in (ahem) decades? & I hate admitting this but those suits are size 10 & 12.  Were we all that skinny before we had our kids??  So the suits I bought yesterday obviously are not size 10.  So now I have to swallow the guilt & it's back to my routine of getting on the treadmill at 7:00 AM while watching the "Today" show or "Good Morning America".  Yuck.  I HATE exercising.  Before we moved, our old apartment complex had a gym & off & on I would go there & workout on the treadmill.  Yeah, I was one of those - lost the weight, gained it back, etc.  The complex we live in now has no gym, but genius me took advantage of my health insurance plan & bought a treadmill with all the bells & whistles.  I got it on sale during Black Friday (Thanksgiving weekend), submitted the purchase to Staples health plan & yes, they reimbursed me $300.!!  So it cost me $350.00 out of pocket.  Not bad. So now I have to actually USE IT to lose about 20 - 30 lbs.  The suits I bought yesterday are size 16 & I NEED to get back to size 10 because there's NO WAY I am getting rid of my 5 suits + 3 dresses that are too tight right now.  Yes, I WILL LOSE the weight.  Wish me luck on this.   P.S.  Hope your reply bug gets fixed.

The funny (?) thing is that I have found a way to post even though it is not usual and there are strange things that happen I have no control over.  Like when I 'Sign In' and begin typing my name - an 'old' password comes up in the password section below.  The password is encoded (dots) but I know it's my old password because if I use it, I am denied access.  However, I always put in my new password which does (usually) work but not before first a page comes up that says I am not authorized to post....(!) but then there's a 'flip' of the page and I'm back to the page with the post I am wanting to post to....but now instead of just the red "Reply" button there is the "Quick Reply" and the "Reply" button that comes up!  I always use the Reply button, but the "Quick Reply" HAS to be there before I can click on the Reply button in order to successfully get to this page where I can type my post on it.  This must sound very confusing but this is the only way I've been able to get to this page to type a post on it! If both the Reply and Quick Reply aren't there, I can't get to the page to type my post.

What also gets me is how I never can stay logged on.  I repeatedly pretty much have to sign in each time.  But seems to me a lot has to do with my 'old' password still being brought up on the Sign In page.

I've written to iVillage again, but this time I've asked them why my old password keeps showing up.  Seems to me, this has nothing to do with a browser, but then I am pretty ignorant when it comes to how computer things work!

Well, that's all for now as far as my complaints go.  LOL.

Yours is the second post today I am replying to and that is to say, it's working.  I sure do wish you luck to lose weight...I am in the same boat, i.e. the same size as you are now and used to be a size 12 or whatever way way back before having children.  I have lost and gained a few times too, but I seemed to have the most problems losing weight after giving birth to my last (4th) child, and learned I had hypothryodism at the time.  However, that is no excuse to my weight gain over the years since I've had medication for the thyroid since then.

Do you usually successfully lose weight just by exercising?  I've not had that success.  I always have had to change my eating habits, but without going into the whole story of my last weight loss venture, (which worked for a while) - I did not feel well on that medically overseen diet. No one on the staff of this clinic I went to for this diet could answer my question as to why I felt horrible (what seemed like extreme hunger pangs for hours at a time even after eating!).  I lost faith and resumed eating how I used to...and felt better, but gained back some weight!

By the way, those old suits of  yours must be 'classically' style to still be in style?  LOL.  No big shoulder pads on the jacket? Wink (Well, some of that may be back in style).

Shirley, I am having similar log-in issues, except for the part about the old password. I log-in, often get taken to a page that says I'm not authorized to ____ (there are a couple of different ones I get), wait for the page to refresh. When it refreshes I'm sometimes back at "not authorized" or sometimes on the board. When I see both the Quick Reply button and the Reply button then I know I am logged in (when I'm  not logged in I see only Reply). "Keep me logged in" is not working for anybody at iVillage as far as I can tell from the posts on the Help board.

It shouldn't matter which browser you're using but the reality is that it does seem to matter. Some seem to work better than others. I don't know much about that stuff either but I suspect that some of the code has to be written differently for the various browsers.

The official reason for the board problems is that there is too much data and it is slowing down all of the processing, and that slowness is keeping the board (server?) from recognizing commands and things like user names and passwords in a timely manner. The solution they came up with several weeks ago was to cull out old data from prior to a certain date, but then I guess some other problem came up and that project was postponed, or something like that.

Have you cleared your cache lately to see if it will remove your old password from your computer? Do you have a "keychain" or other application that remembers passwords, and maybe that is why the old password keeps appearing? You may need to ask Ray to help with that.

You're definitely not alone with all of the problems, and even the administrators don't have much in the way of answers. I hope that somebody gets back to you with some suggestions. I just wish that they would get this mess fixed!

As for me, I don't have any problems logging in.  The page refreshes, then I see "Hello, goldye" on the top left.  Once I see that I can post.  From what I read, it seems ivillage needs to fix their server immediately.  As a business, how can you operate a website if members have trouble posting.  IVillage needs to do everything they can to serve their members.

Elspeth, I have made a 'discovery' - in that if I 'Sign in" immediately by clicking on the 'sign in' on the very upper top left hand corner of the page, that after that when I click on a post to reply to, the 'Reply' and 'Quick Reply' are already on the page, and by clicking on the 'Reply' button I come immediately to the page where to write my post!  Also , I don't seem to have to sign in again - I just go to another post (as in this one) and was able to click Reply and this posting page came up right away for me to type on it.

Let's see if things continue to work this smoothly.

Elspeth, I have exactly the same issues as you do. Although, sometimes I am still logged in like today but other days I play the log in game. It is a shame that ivillage isn't focused on getting these boards up & running. I'm assuming that they either are willing to have this site die due to a lack of earnings potential or they have an incompetent IT team. Sounds mean but having worked most of my life for an IT company, I know that this project isn't getting the attention it needs or the problems are greater than the skills involved in fixing it. Thankfully our groups seems to be stubborn & are trying to stay connected here but as you mentioned earlier many sites seem to have died. Dee
