What will you be doing this weekend?

Tomorrow for brunch we are getting together with a couple, who have been away all winter in Mexico.  They arrived back home a few weeks ago.  We're going to meet them at a local breakfast/lunch restaurant.

Otherwise, our children or some of them will probably be here on Sunday for the usual family dinner.  Today the weather is wonderful...sunny and warm at close to 20 C.  The weekend weather is predicted to be less warm, though not bad, and maybe some cloud mixed with sun.  Outside of what's mentioned, I can't say I have a lot on the agenda mainly due to knee pain that I have and have had for a few weeks now.  My rheumatologist doesn't seem to know what this is from - the source of the problem.  There may be some swelling around both my knees.  Externally, they don't quite look normal (though the swelling isn't extreme) and they certainly are painful, although my rheumatologist doctor said they 'feel' normal from his examination of them - although he did wonder if there was some swelling going on.  But it's not suspected to be osteoarthritis as my last X-rays didn't show any signs of that (in December).  However, I've just had another set of X-rays done on my knees and the results are being sent to my rheumatologist come early next week.  He just wants to be sure nothing has changed since then.  Since X-rays only show bone - if the pain is from some other source, the X-rays won't show what that is.

Anyway the point being that I can't do a whole lot of moving around (walking/standing) with this pain.  So not much I am going to be doing this weekend.  What a bore!  Ray has yard work, a plumbing repair to do for the kitchen sink and something else he mentioned, which I can't remember now.  I wish I could help him with the yard work. (Mostly raking old leaves from last fall that got too soon covered in snow in October!).  Unless this pain ends, I just can't see myself doing that sort of work.

I hope other people here are going to be having a more interesting and/or active and enjoyable weekend than I may be having!

DS's rheumatologist just added Cymbalta to hils Lyrica - hopefully that'll help him - wonder if that'd help you? (Ehlers Danlos syndrome/hypermobility type and fibro)

Nothing exciting here either; I was out of town for 5 days so need time to relax, do chores, etc. Just back from dinner out with dh; might see ds Sunday as he's wrapping up the semester in a couple weeks.

A good friend of mine lost her dad earlier in the week - anyone have good ideas of what to do for her? She got my parents a brick at our botanical garden - I can't really afford that and odds are she'll do that if they don't have one. Looking for something special...  Ideas?

I plan on putting my feet up & doing as little as possible this weekend. Next week is a busy one with the wedding next Sat. DH & DS1 will be off to the stag on Sunday. It's a simple event with a beer tasting & then out for dinner. DS2 didn't want anything wild & crazy. I will enjoy my day home alone & hope that the weather warms up a bit so that I can get a little colour. I have to place my orders for the rehearsal dinner & just realized as I'm writing this that I had meant to go into Costco when I was down in the city to order my trays. How stupid of me to forget. Oh well, guess I will have to figure out how to do this another way without making the 4 hr return trip on Mon to place the order.

Getting excited here about the wedding, saw my future DIL's dress today when she went for her fitting. She looks amazing. I picked up my dress too & have to admit that I feel like a princess in it. LIkely the last formal event I will attend & so I'm glad I went for a ballgown. Something I haven't had before.

We are going by Stephanie's this morning to pick up her laundry to bring it her to do for her, will take it back to her tomorrow,

Today is the Centennial Celebration of my city. They will have a street fair and car show during the day we wll go check out and then some concerts this evening.

I have to buy a wedding present, will probably do that tomorow. We cannot attend the wedding, since it will be mid week.  The couple met at college so are having the wedding graduation week in their college town so their college friends can attend.

The only thing going on for sure is that tonight we're meeting some friends for dinner at a newish pizza place in the next neighborhood over. Its Neapolitan pizza, which is all the rage here, from a hand-made wood fired pizza oven named Sofia. Dh and I haven't been to this place yet but the friends have been there several times. It has a large patio with heaters so I imagine that we will be sitting outdoors...we drove past it last Sat night around sunset and it was packed, hopefully we won't have too long of a wait.

I thought that the electrician was coming back this morning to finish up a few things but so far no sign of him (and I was ready for him at 7am)...so I had left the day reserved for being here with him. Dh is off on a 62 mile supported cycling event in the mountains, he'll probably be back in the early afternoon.

I don't have anything specific planned for Sunday either, besides sleeping in. Dh has a get together with some hiking friends to see one of their group who is fading fast with a terminal disease, that will be a bittersweet party.

The weather here will be good, today in the 70s and Sunday a little cooler but still very nice. Our rainy season is pretty much over until next November, too bad because we are at a deficit of about 4 inches below the 10" average rainfall. I haven't heard anything about water restrictions yet but I won't be surprised if they restart them.

NOTHING!

Or as close to nothing as I can. I have a couple loads of laundry to do-I'll hang them out. I'm trying to catch up on the many e-mails we've received.(if you wrote me & I didn't respond-I'll get to you!) A part of me wants to return to the cemetary-but it is too soon.

We've parented for almost 43 years-suddenly & without warning, we are "Empty-nesters". So Mike & I have to learn to rely on one another. None of our children are close enough to return home for family dinners regularily, so it's just the two of us. We didn't even go through the stage where he was living here-but only to sleep and eat an occasional meal-in fact, he was needing more & more time & attention in recent months. So I have hours to fill.

But we will do this-& this weekend is the beginning of it. A bit of laundry, Mike just finished the vacuuming-if it is as warm as they predict-we can begin to turn over the soil in the garden tomorrow to prepare for planting. It will be strange to do it without forever checking to see that Adam is okay-but it is the beginning of a new phase in our life.

And so, in this weekend, mostly nothing-never far from the box of tissues, but even that is better than it was. One week ago he was so ill-now nothing.

Dee, we will want to see pictures of you in the ballgown!

Conserve your strength for the coming week. Sounds hectic, but fun.

Sue, are you wanting to give something in the way of a permanent memorial? What about a donation in her dad's name to a charity related to his interests or medical condition (if applicable)?

{{{Nora}}} I can imagine that this weekend is a tough time for you. All of the family have left?

I hope that you can get out into your garden. I find working the soil soothing somehow. Its hard work but the kind that you really feel like you've "done something" (as opposed to making the bed which seems kind of pointless lol, except possibly to instill order). Planting and tending plants feeds my soul, I guess its the nurturing part of it. You have been nurturing for so many years that of course you can't just turn that off. Hopefully gardening will fill some of that for you.

Do you think that you will continue volunteering at Community Living?

Its good that you have your wonderful partner Mike by your side as you both start this new phase. We're here for you too.

'Nester, how was the Centennial celebration? Do those things get really crowded? Did you listen to any of the music? Besides SXSW, isn't the music scene there really big?

Interesting that a wedding is held mid-week to accomodate their student friends. I guess that keeps the guest list small since probably lots of family and friends can't make it lol. Dh and I got married on a Friday morning but much later held a reception on a Saturday for all of the friends and relatives.

It wasn't too crowded but we got there just an hour or so  before it was scheduled to end.   They had music all day in the square so we heard a bit  but the concerts start at 6:00 at another location.  We decided not to go the them.

Yes, the music scene is pretty big here, more so in the city than in the burbs.

Ran into one of DD3's best friends from middle school. She is on a rollar derby team.  We will be going to watch her tomorrow afternoon.

I think that their thinking on the planning on the wedding it that older friends and family would have more resources to travel to  attend the wedding than their college friends so their made it easier on the college friends.  If it were not for the Stephanie issue we would probably be attending but with the time we are having ot take off for her will not be taking any pleasure time off this year.
