My ds worked at a place where they had a chef that he said made killer green beans. He wouldn't tell the recipe so we experimented. I'm sure this is nothing like what he did but my in-law family sure loved it at Christmas:
Fresh green beans, trimmed, cut to desired size
butter, fresh lemon, salt, pepper, bacon (optional)
Boil enough water to just cover the beans, add beans and boil 5 minutes. Toss with butter, fresh squeezed lemon, salt, pepper. Optionally add crumbled bacon (most preferred it this way but we had some vegetarians and honestly I prefer not having them). Serve hot.
The last time DH and I ate at our favorite restaurant he had green beans which sound a lot like you are describing (minus the bacon). They were wonderfull.
