DD's ivillage playgroup pretty much shifted base on FB and yesterday I just posted that Ishi was giving me a lot more attitude than beofre, going into defiant mode, whcih I think is pretty much part of terrible twos, and the lovely stage at which toddlers just test their boundaries and I wanted to know who was in the same boat as I was because right now I'm dealing with the worst hissy fits possible, her throwing things, her looking at me square in the eye when I say now with a

Thougthfull, respectful, and kind...yikes :) What a disease that must be...oh well she'll survive LOL

Growing up there was two kids in my school, one in my class, the other in my sister's class who were children of psychologists, for some reason they were both the most ill behaved kids in the area, the reasoning of the parents was that saying no or disciplining a child too harshly could cause psycological trauma later in life! I have no idea what kind of psychiatrists the parents were in those two cases, but boy oh boy their kiddos were mean, short tempered, always had the latest toy/clothes rubbed it in the other kid's faces, whoever was not worshiping them was a natural enemy (I fell in that category) the girl in my class was so pissed that I was the only girl not really giving much of a damn about her apparently elevated status (whatever that was) had all the other girls run an anti-Cynthia and her friends agenda, and the attacks always got meaner and meaner as she grew older...so yeah maybe her mom thought she saved her daughter from suffering whatever psycological damage she thought would occur by indulging her all the time, but boy that girl did make sure a significant portion of the school grew in fear of her and those refusing to see her as the queen got a lot of psycological distress coming their way. She was also arrogant with teachers too, and each time they punished her, they had the mom in their hair.
Oops make that 2 kids in my class, there was a boy who was the son of a psychiatrist who was even more looney that that girl's mom, she actually asked my mom who was on the school canteen comitte if it was possible for her son to bring his own plate and cutelry to the school because he told her that he was disgusted at the thought of eating in the same plates as everybody else. My mom told the lady "Listen, canteen meal isn't even compulsory, if he doesn't want to eat there, take him home to eat I don't care, but no special treatment". Her boy was meaner than all too, he pushed me down the stairs on occasions, his reasoning is that I was too smart and he was the only one to be allowed to be smart! When my mom cornered his mom and made me explain to that lady what her son was doing to me she was like "Oh I think there must be a misunderstanding there, I don't see my son doing such thing, but I'll talk to him" Never worked, I was still a threat to his intelligence supremacy apparently...sad

Oh yeah if we had a house with a yard I would let her scream outside too :)
Ishi is smart, she gets that if I throw her in her room that means i am not interested in a shriek fest and that no I won't give in, so she calms down very quickly, there is no point going through a tantrum when you have no audience anyway.

My theory in child raising is that we grown up pay the rent and get food on the table so that means parents call the shots, not the kids :)

Talk about unreasonable, for sure...but it's she who is, not you!
