Rome Day 2, pt 5

After we picked up the few stragglers, we headed back to the city center for dinner. Everytime we did this, it was a LONG walk. Because the bus can only go on streets where it can fit and also has a place to stop, so that leaves out all the small streets where most things are located. So we parked and got out and started walking.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Here is one of my favorite photos. I just think it really captures the "feel" of the streets of Rome. Photobucket This one too, with the laundry hanging out to dry. Photobucket Photobucket By the time we got the the restaurant, I thought I was going to pass out! It was really, really far and also uphill! It was in an old jail and very quaint. First some foccacia- Photobucket Then, the antipasti- OMG, I think I would have been happy with just a big plate of anti pasti- YUM!! Photobucket After that, I lost interest in taking food porn shots, so sorry:) After this, came the pasta course, then the main course, which was string beef and potatoes. It was tasty but sort of weird. After that was the dessert. Tiramisu. Whatever tiramisu you have ever had, this was just so much better. Did not have a strong coffee flavor at all and was just simple and YUM. This is Leys. She was the main woman from EF Tours who was in charge of our training tour. Photobucket This is Anna and Pettus, the two ladies I hung out with and shopped with while I was in Italy. Photobucket This photo shows some of the farming implements from the past on the wall in the background. Photobucket Katia Photobucket After dinner, we walked back to the bus in the dark, which I have to admit, if I wasn't in such a large group, I'd have felt unsafe. Plus, walking across the street in Rome is an adventure in itself. No one stops! So Katia would wait til she thought we could go and then we'd all start crossing and she'd stand there and yell "Don't Stop, don't stop, don't stop!" and then the traffic would stop for us. It was scary and definitely freaked most of us out. She said more people get injured from trying to run to cross because if the car sees you it will stop or go around if you are walking but if you run, it doesn't know which way to go. Hmmmm. We headed back to the hotel and many of us were wiped! We'd been awake for about 24 hours at this point. I was so tired that I showered and got my pj's on and my roommate Karen did the same and we were out right away! I had opened the windows and let the hot air out and it was nice and cool in our room. Later, some of the women complained that there had been a party and it had been loud on the courtyard side (we were on the street side) but we didn't hear anything til the wake up call at 7 am.

Well, I guess you burn off your dinner before you get to eat in Italy huh? ;)

I couldn't see the laundry at first in that one pic-it seemed to blend in-maybe because it seems like there is so much going on in one street. I liked the pics again-you're a good photographer. :)
