OK, so at this point, we'd gone outside and were walking to St. Peter's Basilica, which is part of the Vatican. It is the church where the Pope does his services, etc and they had had a big thing there the day before so all of the chairs were still set up.

I was in awe of the artwork as well. It's crazy to think about how much live and death stuff has played out there. Really, for Rome, you live or die by the church-literally.

That dessert does look better than my first husband.

Also, I didn't talk about the Sistine Chapel because I don't have any pictures of it. You can't take photos and they don't even want you to talk when you are there because it is a holy place. They have guards who ssshhh you while you are there. When it's tourist season, the guides aren't allowed to tell you about it from inside the chapel. It is where they decide on the next pope. When they have a decision, they have this little stove where they put white smoke if they come to a decision and black smoke if they don't have a decision. Very interesting.

That is how I felt about the coffins too. At first, I wasn't going to take a pic, thought it might be sort of disrespectful? But I decided they wouldn't put them out where tourists could do that if they didn't want to allow people to take a picture. Those dudes have been there for four hundred years!

LOL About that dessert-it sure did look good though. :)

Wow-that was another pretty amazing thing to see! I thought the clear casket was interesting-a little creepy-but interesting. I love the uniforms of the Vatican guards. I remember when the Today show was in the Vatican and they did a story on the guards-pretty interesting. You really did see a LOT in a short amount of time. No wonder you are still wiped out!
