Here it is Jan. and it is raining here.  Smileycons!

We have hardly any snow at all this winter and it is trecherous walking out there right now.  Just to go out to the chickens and geese have to be very careful walking.  Where is our winter??????

Elaine, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Hope you had an eventless drive.

At the moment we have no  fires burning in our immediate area Brigitte, but I do have some things together, just in case.  We actually have to go away for a few days, a friend of ours passed away on Friday, so i will take some extra things with us, such as photo albums and documents, just to be sure.  Just getting there could be a bit of a challenge, it is about a 9 hour drive and two of the roads along the way have been closed because of fires, I guess we will just have to see what conditions are like on the day.

It must be scary. Do you have your stuff all packed and ready to go in case you do get a call?

There is one fire in our area at the moment Brigitte.  We have a rural fire sevice brigade local area headquarters down the road  and in the last few minutes one of their truck sjust raced down the road.  I checked the emergency services website and they currently have 11 trucks and one water bombing helicopter on the scene, but they do not believe it will threaten any property.

In 2003 around 500 homes were lost here and 4 people died when bushfires got out of control, so we get very nervous whenever fires start.  We live on the urban fringe.  Fortunately no houses in our immediate area were lost, but it was a close thing at times.

Elaine, is there any of the fires near you? I've been watching it on the news. Doesn't look good ...

The weather just seems to be so unpredictable these days.  I am in Australia, we had ourt coldest winter in over 20 years, now we are having heatwaves, the like of which haven't been seen before.

We've had a ton of snow (maybe some of yours? Laughing), but the last three days it's been way warmer then it's supposed to be.  Some of the snow has melted and we've got puddles in the driveway, but underneath it's all still frozen.  I'd rather have the snow then the freezing rain Frown, though.  Rain makes walking so much more difficult, even though snow is more work with ploughing etc. but still better afterwards when you walk through it.
