Sorry have been MIA

I want to apologize for not being here lately.  I've had some trouble signing in and been too busy to deal with it Cry I know it's a poor excuse.  Things have been so busy around here that I actually took time away from the Farm on Saturday and spent six hours christmas shopping.  Don't remember ever doing it like that before.  It is amazing, though, how much money I DO spend on gifts when it's all bunched together like that Surprised.

The tree finally came into the house yesterday, the kids put their gifts under it, but there's no lights or decorations on it yet.  However, today is a school cancellation because of freezing rain, so I guess they'll find time doing that now.  I finally found the documentation I need to get a passport for our trip to Europe in February (just me and the two youngest and maybe the oldest paying her own way).  Paperwork needs to be finished before year end for the Farm, Gifts need to be wrapped (some of them returned, as DD #1 found the real thing in the City), manure still needs to be removed from inside the barn as well as around it to make room for gates etc. to keep cattle and sheep in, the house needs cleaning as always, but seems to be worse during the Holidays. Frown.  So there's lots to do around here beside the typical laundry and pile of dishes that need looking after.

If I can't make it online before the Holidays I wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or overall just a nice time of the year.

Hi Brigitte,

Yes, trying to sign in can be a bit of a trial can't it?  I didn't know if you were ill, busy or just frustrated with the technical problems with the boards, I hope they get them fixed soon.

I didn't know you were going to Europe, I assume you will be visiting family, but are you travelling around as well?  The children must be very excited!

I am not at work at the moment, I had a lot of annual leave accumulated and was asked to take it, so I finished at the end of November, go back on 2nd January for a couple of weeks then have to take another 4 weeks off.  My DH has a couple of weeks off now too, he finished Tuesday of last week so this year we have had more time to get the shopping done and prepare for Christmas.  This will be the first year that our son won't be here at Christmas, he and his girlfriend are travelling to Adelaide, which is a two day drive, to spend Christmas with his girlfriend's Father.  Our DD and her fiance will arrive from Melbourne on Saturday, plus their cat.  ;-)

As usual, we are expecting hot weather around Christmas,  at this stage the forecast for Christmas Eve is 36C/96F but 26C/79F for Christmas Day itself.

Have a safe and happy Christmas Brigitte, if I don't see you here before.

Elaine, we're likely to just stay with family (as usual). My Mom's turning 70 and I've been told to be there ;) I've been finding it more stressful lately to travel with the kids - I just don't seem to have the patience any more. DD #3 was 18 month when she was there before and DD #4 has never been, so it'll be a great experience for them. I know they'll be looking forward to it. My Mom can be very, how should I say it, hurtful, spiteful, competitive etc. in the way she talks. She doesn't seem to realize she's doing it. Unfortunately my younger sister is just like that, too, so I really don't have any contact with her at all (wasn't even told of her wedding, let alone invited ...). I've contacted my sister on her birthday and sent her a Christmas card, but haven't heard from her on my birthday and am not expecting anything from her. But I won't go as low as her in my manner ... Well, a cat for Christmas - that'll be something. We've had cats in the house over the years and I usually hang bells on the bottom of the Christmas tree and they've got something to play with as well as me knowing that they're playing with the ornaments :) I wish you a Merry Christmas as well. Our's will be cold: we're supposed to go to -21C on Sunday and Monday night - hope Santa has a warm blanket in his sleigh ...
