Hey all. I'm an old old member from a few years back. I dropped off the face of the planet a bit. I need some advice.

The backstory:

The family moved from New York to Alabama in October 2009 to a new job, hoping to make a better life. Due to job issues in AL, we were transfered to North Carolina

Hi, Shannon. I'm really sorry to hear about the stressful family situation. It sounds like you've identified what needs to be worked on (schedule and constancy with discipline), and that's a huge step! What does your schedule currently look like? Have you gotten to meet any families in your area to set up play dates? What do your weekends look like? I like taking my son on "dates" on Saturday. We usually go somewhere like a bookstore and browse, then get a drink from the cafe. Sometimes we'll go shopping, just the two of us. While we're doing that, my husband stays home with my youngest and they have some daddy/daughter bonding time.

As far as snacks go, my kids like colorful snacks. A plate full of sliced fruit is a favorite. Add a side of yogurt, and the kids are in heaven! My oldest loves "ants on a log" (celery with peanut butter and raisins). Another favorite is a twist on those tubes of yogurt. We freeze them, and the kids love them more than ice cream!

Well we've made it through two sit down dinners without tantrums (or without the appearance of Goldfish crackers - why can't they make those darn things fortified! :P), and I've slashed TV time almost 100%.

As for foods, I'm just going to have to put my foot down, I guess. Is it fair to only offer certain things, and if they don't eat them, let the kids go hungry till the next meal time? Most of the time I put out fruit and 'dippers' and we end up just making a mess with nothing but ranch dressing making it in their little tummies. I never considered freezing those yogurt tubes. My son could drink about 3 a day of the brand that comes in a jug. The younger one I mix it with milk and a carnation instant breakfast. Poor guy got his teeth late and has had 6 come in all at once.

I do have a moms group but it only meets once a month. I actually 'kind of' met a woman with a son my eldest DS's age at the gym I just got a membership to. They have a great kids facility. I'm hoping to run into her again. She seemed normal enough!

Here's to sticking to New Year's resolutions!
