Does anyone else menu plan? How far in advance? And, here's the big question... Do you stick to the plan? :-)

I do a weekly meal plan when I make my grocery list for the week... do I stick to it? Umm... mostly. I try to set specific days especially for the days when I don't have much time to cook but things get shuffled around. I have a really hard time remembering to put things in the crock pot on crock pot days which really messes things up. I have several meals I keep the stuff on hand for so in a pinch I can make them. I also don't do a good job of planning for the weekends, lunches especially. I've tried the monthly thing and some how it feels like we end up eating spaghetti and tacos over and over.

You could do "Asian" for Tuesday, and that would cover a lot... I have a couple recipes that fall under that category I could pass on!

I do weekly as well, and it's more a "Mostly" thing for me too! I need to set a goal of sticking to the menu for two or three weeks straight so I can form the habit. I totally forget to put stuff in the crockpot and then I've totally screwed up the whole week... lol
I love to cook but sometimes I wake up, look at what I have planned and go, "I don't feel like that..." and then it all goes haywire. This week I've actually done a good job sticking with the menu, the past three days I have and I have everything I need for tonight's dinner. Now to plan next week's...

I'd love some ideas for Asian... I'd like to set up more of a food theme for each day of the week and try the monthly plan again. We are considering a Sam's Club membership but they aren't real close so I'd have to be super organized on what we would need for a 2 month supply. I'm going to go with SIL when she buys the concession stand supplies for soccer and see if it really would be worth it.

Jess, I'd love some Asian recipes!

Kim, we make a monthly-or-so trip to Costco in the US and it actually works out pretty well.

I do monthly.

Here is the way I menu plan dinners.

Every month has in theory 4 days of each  weekday  and each week day has a set  main ingredient, something that is on sale the day I am going shopping,  I check the  flyers the same day and plan from there.

So lets  made imaginary  menu.

Monday: Pasta

Tuesday: Cod

Wednesday:  Ground beef

Thursday:  Chicken tights

Freddy:  Homemade  fast food  ( I do this as treat for us)

Saturday:  sausages

Sundays: stew meat.

And all  I have to do now is goggling and checking  magazines and cookbooks for   4 recipes for each day and I have a whole month of dinners.   I then try to set the dinner so the  ingredients matches  each other so I use up all I buy. I even plan Sunday desserts this way.

misstrygg,

Thanks for sharing.  What a interesting idea!! :smileyhappy:

Are you repeating recipes each month or is there almost always a new recipe each week?

Do you use a slow cooker?  Or a rice maker?

I do have a crock pot, but it mostly used for jam or parties because it is slightly too big and I don't have a rice cocker because for me it isn't needed.

We have a few favorites that comes back and I add new recipes  every month, I just love cooking and cooking in season is my favorite.

Repartitions doesn't in my view teach children to enjoy food, they shouldn't know it is the third  Monday of the month due to the food or as some one else who  knew what day it was  due to dinner, she got the 7  same dishes  week in and week out at home, except holiday until she moved away.
