Thoughts on trampolines?

Since dh is getting rid of our pool I was considering a trampoline. But I am just not sure. They scare me. Heard some bad stories but also know a lot of people w/ them and they have not had any *knock on wood* accidents. My friend has the net that wraps around so no one can fall out and the kids have a blast on it. But I have to say I am on pins and needles when they are on it...my kids are very accident prone so that may just be tempting fate a bit much, huh?

We are actually thinking of getting one soon too. The girls have been asking for one forever, and dh has always said no. Now that he has seen how much fun they have on my friend's he has decided to get one. They have the net around it and we will definitely get one. So far they haven't gotten hurt at my friend's house, and there are usually several kids on it, which always scares me, but no major accidents.

I had one growing up, and one of my cousins used to get crazy on it...I remember him flying off of it through the trees several times, but he never managed to actually hurt himself, lol.

I guess this doesn't really help you, but I thought it was funny we were both thinking about it!

The ones without safety nets and such scare me too.

As long as there is a net around it and only one jumps at a time there isn't a real hazard. But it is dangerous if more then one jump at the same time, specially if one person is heavier then the other... Ragnar's friend's arm broke last summer because she was jumping with her big brother on a small trampoline. I do believe the bigger are safer also...

Although trampolines can be scary for parents to watch their kids play on, they are a lot of fun and great exercise. They also help kids with balance and coordination. No matter what your kids do they could get hurt, so it just depends on if you have kids that have common sense. I had friends who had trampolines growing up, babysat kids who had trampolines, and had them myself. I know of NO accidents that have happened, even as minor as a black eye. It is my personal opinion that if you dont let them have one or play on one, they will anyway when you are not around and then they probably will get hurt because they are trying to show off when they dont know what they are doing. Kids are that way. Good luck in your decision.

Just and FYI.. my bro and sil had a trampoline in their back yard. Their homeowner's insurance came out to check out damage from a fire they had in their shed and they were told if they did not get rid of the trampoline, they would be dropped from their homeowner's insurance. Supposedly, if you have one and your insurance company finds out, they can drop you.

Sue, thought of you today as I was riding my bike home from school.......someone had a trampoline in their backyard and they had dug a hole and put it in the hole, flush with the ground, KWIM?

There was one in Ragnar's old pre-school like that, dug into the ground, and it had a bunch of mattresses around it so if someone would fall they wouldn't get hurt...
