I came across this slideshow of kitchens on MSN news and it made me wonder...what ever happened to a bit of colour?

Our kitchen used to be this sandy pink color-think southwest decor. Floors are white tile which shows every dang little piece of dirt and dog hair. Counterrops were laminate, greyish/pink flecks. Cabinets were stained this yellowish color with high gloss polyurethane. We repainted it "gravel" which is a grayish white, put in a glass mosaic tile backslash in shades of green, beige, yellow, brown, with a hint of blue. Sounds terrible, but it was on clearance and looks decent, stripped the cabinets and stained them a medium dark oak color and finished with MATTE polyurethane, so no more high gloss cabinets! Oh and we replaced the counterrop with one that is gray with blue/green undertones. We want to sell the house in the next few years, so I didn't want to go too wild but also didn't want a completely bland kitchen either. I prefer to bring color in with accents anyway.

Nothing wrong with silver and white starburst!

OK we moved here a year ago and have just started decorating the house so the kitchen cabinets are white, the counter tops are a light pink laminate and the floor is cream with hints of pink and blueish gray... walls... 1/2 is a bright red, 1/2 is horrible 80s pink and teal wall paper. I do tend to stick to neutrals and with DH saying he doesn't see us living here in 5 years I'm keeping to it. I do miss the colors especially on the walls. I thought I'd like the white cabinets but wow do they look dirty fast and the paint is peeling with my scrubbing. The pink counter tops are better than the 60s silver and white starburst ones in our old house but still ugly.
