This summer is really dragging and I don't know what to do with my 9 yr old son.  I'm already sick of the beach and community pool.  We couldn't afford to take a vacation this summer cuz we're broke.  We don't really have any friends.  Any ideas?

That is a tough one... we did the summer reading program at the library, there is a free soccer camp and the kids are doing a week of VBS. It is nice we have a neighbor kids they like to hang out with and with 4 of them they entertain each other. Outside of that the beach and the nature center have been fun. We don't really have good places to bike but my older kids loved taking long bike rides when they visited my parents.

We do library reading club (and visited the library regularly even before the club started in July) and go to the closest beach/lake every so often. There are also parks here and we have a great back yard. Of course, my guys are almost-5 and 2 1/2, so they're happy with dirt to play with and a place to play with the sprinkler...

How are you guys doing this week?

Ok, well Summer is over, but this topic is still up, and I AM BORED too!!! I try to do as much stuff with my 2 young kids as possible to get them out of the house (husband works at nome). But I am really bored of gymnastics, the children's museum, the park and all the usual stuff that we do. I find myself bringing a book so I can at least have some mental stimulation while they play. But I never get to read much as I feel guilty and drop it to interact.
Anyone else get BORED? I am actually excited to take them to the pumpkin patch for a change! Being a S-at-H mom is a little tedious sometimes! And I try really hard to do a couple of outings with them every day now that the weather is nice.

Welcome to the board, Tamara!  Being a SAHM can definitely be tedious sometimes.  How old are your kids?  Our favourite regular activity is play school, which I like because there are other moms that I can talk to while the boys play in a safe, supervised environment.

Do you do any activities for yourself during the week?  Because having you-time can make all the difference to how you feel about the time you spend with your kids.  There's another play time close by to our house that I just can't bear to go to because none of the other parents will talk to me; I feel way happier going to a place that has something for me as well as something for them, and I feel better about doing activities with my kids when I know that I'm going to get to do my own activities later.

The pumpkin patch sounds like fun!  I think Monkey will be going to the pumpkin patch as a school field trip.
