We're going camping soon, and I need a good go-to list of things to do with the boys.  What are your favourite activities when you're out in the wilderness?

S'mores, stories and songs around the campfire. Scavenger hunts! Identifying trees and leaves and rocks. Is there a lake nearby? Boat rides and fishing are fun too.

We did a lot of digging in the dirt and throwing rocks into the river.  DH also rented a row boat and took the boys out, and on Saturday there was a lantern-making project at the amphitheatre and then we lit them and released them on to the lake.  I think our only mistake was not being well enough prepared for the beach.

I think my boys would have had lots of fun with such a trip. We did go out to the ILs' lake house last Thursday and Friday, so there was beach and boating time but indoor plumbing and also electricity when the generator was on. :smileywink:

When we went camping last year, we brought toys, books and beach stuff. We also had our boat but had no luck on the fishing attempt. Oh, and we did a few walks around the campground to burn off more energy.
