OK, I know all the "experts" say not to even try before 18 months and most kids aren't ready to start toilet training until 2, but tonight, something really exciting happened.
DD is almost 17 months and we've been working on increasing her awarenes of bowel and urinary function. She comes in the BR with us, when we know she's going, we say you're going pee-pee/ca-ca, she's told us a few times after the fact, lately she will point to her vulva and say pee-pee, we've sat her on the toilet to familiarize her with it. Tonight, she said "pee-pee" and was grabbing at her diaper. I checked it, and it was dry, but she continued and went to the gate to go upstairs. I undid the gate and followed her upstairs, she went directly into the BR and stood beside the toilet. I put her on and immediately she peed and had a BM! She got this surprised/proud/happy look on her face. We made a big deal of it and told her how proud we were. She didn't want to get off the toiled for 20 min and was upset when I put her diaper back on. It was like she was saying "I went in the toilet like a big girl, so I don't need that thing anymore!"
I don't think this was a fluke (we've had those before), she conciously told us she had to go, waited until she was on the toilet and then went. Am I crazy to start toilet training at her age?

Jennifer, That is GREAT! Way to go! I am sure it has happened to other parents this early as well. If not then she is just a little genius..lol. I can not remember at all when my dd's started doing that. Keep us posted on her status. How awesome, soon you will not have to worry about diapers anymore.
