There won't be more than 8 or 10 adults and 6 or 8 children in attendance, but I want to make it special because it's my first child's first birthday, and it's well... kind of for me...

What did you guys do for your babies' first birthdays? I'd like to hear any suggestions keeping in mind we want to make it small, but special.

Thanks in advance!

Well first you need to decide on a few key items.

Like where and when Time of day?

Ages of the kids

Theam

Food type

Are the kids all the same age as yours? Will you be having BBQ or a sit down meal?

Do you want a theam? Do you want a place to go to or have entertainmet come to you?

orientaltrader.com is a good place to go for ideas and items for a party.

How about pick a color theme? for instance purple. have purple balloons, purple table cloth a white cake with purple piping and purple presents like barney perhaps. or the purple teletubby.

or. have a blank scrapbook and take polaroids of guest with birthday child then have them write a small note for baby to read at a later birthday. make a square of plaster and have everyone plus baby imprint their hands together if available get a cake with baby[s picture on it. the theme would be called making memories.

Good luck hope this helps!

Hi,, I had family over for my 1st dd's 1st birthday,, we had cake, one for us and one for her!! I had a little cake that I slapped down in front of her and she played with it and made a mess while I taped. My theme was 1st birthday, I had napkins and tablecloths that said that. We had some lunch before hand and she opened presents the best she could,, Keep it simple and short. Although it is her 1st and you want it to be special, she will be overwhelmed and get tired. Good Luck,,

I think 1st parties can be fun but also remember that a 1 year old won't remember a thing about it & they also tend to get overwhelemd with alot going on. So I would personally make it a more intimate party. Maybe have the older kids do a craft, like a birthday card that you could save until the baby is older. And I'd just serve food, cake, etc & let the older kids play & the adults converse. We had the HUGE 1st b-day party for my son & swore DD's 1st would not be as dramtic. Since mostly all I did was stress out wondering if DS was having "fun," etc. Then I realized he wouldn't remember it so why go through that much trouble for DD. She still had a party but it was a much smaller setting with not as much going on & it turned out perfect!
