8 yr old with baseball dilemma

My son just started park and rec baseball. He broke his pinky finger on his non-dominant hand a week ago and is bummed he can't play ball. The doctor said 3-4 wks recovery. I took him to the first practice yesterday anyway because they hand out the info and shirts. If his finger heals, he will be able to play the games that are the last 3 wks of the season. I had him participate in what he could (base running, easy grounders with good hand) but he came over to me crying halfway through the practice because he needed to sit out when they were practicing pop flies. He has always been one to melt under the least bit of stress. The coaches encourage him to come to the practices as they are learning the fundamental rules of the game. They do not push any kid to participate. I'm afraid that if I don't take him to the practices, he will miss out on the rules and won't know what to do if he is able to play the games, yet I don't want to bring him only to have him be upset because he can't participate. He is a good ball player and I think that it is extra hard for him to deal with this. Any advice?

I agree and would still take him,, if he is a good ball player he knows what is going on but it is important for him to learn all the rules, the do's and don'ts,, how to be a team player, and team players even though they get hurt still show up to support the team,, explain all that to him,, gl,, he will be happy once his finger gets better,,
